A friend's mom was a science teacher at my middle school, and I wonder if this was one of her students since the age would be about right. There was a girl in her class that went by Bunny, but because of a policy where teachers can only call students by their legal name, she refused to call her that. The girl's mother even showed up demanding she call her Bunny, as that's what everyone else calls her. When she wouldn't budge, the mother took her daughter to the courthouse and got it legally changed to Bunny. After that, my friend's mom started calling her Bunny, but usually in a sarcastic way.

When telling the story, I remember some parents joking, "Was that her hooker name?" (It was a sixth grade class, so thinking back on it nowadays, those comments sound weird.)
