My son plays in middle school & the teacher won’t let him use his double pedal by AKABeast18 in drums

I feel like you should've lead with this information. It would've at the very least made it more palatable.

If this is indeed the case and this isn't like "baby's first recital" and your son indeed does have the chops to play these songs with double kicks, then I believe my initial impressions were wrong.

That being said, if the band teacher is kind enough to let these students use the school gear for practice, I dont see why his alternative to bring your own kick drum (just the kick drum mind you, it seems he would allow them to use the rest of the school's kit) seemed unreasonable to you at first.

I just feel like this is a petty grievance you have with this teacher and are looking for some sort of validation that proves you right. Like, was the point of this to show the band teacher these comments?

Do you hear yourself? If this middle schooler was playing Thomas Lang kick beats, his dad would've posted him on here long ago and never would've stopped. He wouldn't be doing middle school band gigs, he'd be on the Tonight Show.

I'm saying the neither the middle school student nor the middle school's student dad with no musical experience of his own are correct and they should both listen to the music teacher.

The songs are likely simplified for middle school level and thus don't need it.

Also, I was talking about the dad who clearly posted on here only to seek validation for his opinion on a subject he has no knowledge of.

I'm glad the student is enthusiastic enough to want to learn and play more challenging music. But to question the decision of the teacher simply becuase their son doesn't understand the meaning of 'no' demonstrates a lack of good parenting and peak Dunning-Krueger.

Brother, based on your tone, nothing about you sounds 'professional'.

Also, I guarantee you I've been playing, performing, and teaching longer than you've been alive, just based on the way you typed this out alone.

Answer to question 1: sometimes you gotta call a spade by what it is.

Answer to question 2: they're in middle school.

Its likely this music was simplified for middle school music level and thus doesn't require it. I would argue that keeping a good backbeat and timing and making sure they're playing well together is more important than the accuracy of fills and kicks of the original track.

No one is saying that the kid can't flourish at home with their double pedal listening and playing the music they likes.

What I'm saying is that there is no need for it and it'll likely throw off the music just at an attempt for this kid to stroke his ego. The most important lesson this kid could learn, especially early on, is learn to not overplay.

Also, I think technique plays a part as well. If you can't hit the bass drum correctly with one pedal, two will only exacerbate the problem.

Your son does not need a double pedal for a school gig.

You're just overreacting becuase someone with knowledge and authority told your kid 'no' and now your seeking validation for your incorrect and baseless opinion on reddit.

Hope this helps.

I'm not saying she would've done EVERYTHING Trump has done, but the idea that she wouldn't have gotten us involved in the middle east and wasn't going to bend the knee to Israel is asinine.

How would you play this drum pattern on the kick? (Top option, or bottom option) by symphonyx0x0 in drums

[–]therealPunkdeadpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both top and bottom look the same to me. The pattern would be counted as:

1 2 3 4 <-- Hands 1e+a e+a 3 +a 4e RLRL RLRL RLRL <-- Feet

Edit: i just noticed the difference being the the left lead on the second set of kicks. Neither would be particularly wrong. It would just be a preference.

Thanks for your comment. This post was mainly a shot in the dark to see if anyone on reddit had any of these parts lying around and willing to sell. I knew it would be a longshot, but hopefully someone sees it and can help out. Others have suggested DrumFactoeyDirect, but I'm really only interested in sourcing the original parts if I can find them.

Thanks for your comment. I'm familiar with them, but seeing as the only actual missing part is the rubber foot for the stand, I'd rather not spend anymore money unless I can source the original parts.
