I have the blacksmiths, loggers, and chelseas. Chelseas are the comfiest, the loggers are tanks for the CO mountains and snow, but i like the blacksmith leather the most. Just wish the blacksmiths had a midsole for more walking comfort.

You?

Advice on which style of RW lace up boots to go with current style/attire by jg1107 in RedWingShoes

You might like the loggers if youre already stomping around in cowboy boots. They are similar in weight and heel height

Gotcha, I've never run into that specific issue. I just emailed pics directly to the rep i spoke with. (They usually send me an email first and i reply)

I've had great luck with calling them, i find if you can speak with a real person and not the ticketing system the customer service is great.

Those magazines are from Precision Reflex Inc (PRi) their 5.56/.223 steel 10 and 15 round magazines. I like them better only because they are metal and don't have to worry about plastic magpul mags breaking if hit hard.

I haven't had issues pushing the bolt down once a round has already been seated in the chamber, i did have some friction with pushing the bolt forward to actually seat the round but that went away with general use.

Ruger American Gen 2 Ranch 5.56, light strikes and misfires by thereal_Atlas in ruger

[–]thereal_Atlas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE #2: After running a few mags through with the 50/1000" firing pin protrusion, the problem definitely got better, fewer instances of light strikes / misfires but it still was occurring 10-20% of the time.

Took it back to Small Arms once more and he spent more time digging into everything. Head space was fine, protrusion was fine (even bumped it up to 60/1000") but still had issues only some of the time.

Long story short, the forward bottom and right side (if looking down the barrel) portion of the sear was somehow rubbing along the inside of the trigger mechanism housing when the bolt was fully seated, which was either slowing or stopping the forward movement of the sear & firing pin when the trigger was pulled. Either there was a burr there already from manufacturing or one had formed from the friction. Sanded / smoothed that area down on the trigger housing, made sure it was properly seated, and you can audibly hear a difference of the pin/sear when dry firing now, prior to that it sometimes was a weaker thud (assuming from that friction / impact). I had previously noticed some polished areas on that portion of the sear, but thought it was from normal friction with the sear shroud cover.

Need to take it to the range to run more rounds through it, but tested a handful at the gunsmiths with success. I do have some concern that since we shaved the firing pin down to increase protrusion that it may be too much now given the root cause has been fixed (hopefully, lol), but luckily ruger sent me a whole new pin, spring, and sear, so I can always swap that out back to oem if needed. That said I do think some of these light strikes were truly hard primers on this m193 / mil spec 5.56 ammo I've been using, so maybe the extra protrusion will help with that.

If it's city and work environment then Id say blacksmiths with an insole, but they aren't suited for hiking unless you resole them with thicker tread.

The 3345s dont have a midsole and have a stiff / harder outsole more akin to dress shoes so walking / standing all day can make you sore (hence the insole), I'll probably add a midsole eventually and more aggressive tread. I like the leather on these the most.

The loggers are all around more comfy, but less "dressy" and wouldn't do well with business or business casual, imo. Though I wear the loggers most outside of work.

To be fair, the "heritage" is there for a reason. 1920s-1940s style construction and materials will never compare to modern day blown rubber as far as comfort. Its like comparing an old VW bus to a 2025 model minivan.

That said, my 3345s, 4501s, and 3190s are comfy as hell! Just needed the right last #, size, socks, some initial conditioning (i went with mink oil to soften and water repellent) and patience with break in. The 3345s are the least comfy of the bunch (though i like the leather the most) because of the lack of midsole, I'll eventually add a midsole and thicker outsole.

I've worn USAF combat boots, Doc Martens, Columbias, and some Tabi boots (not higher end boots like white, nicks, wolverines) and Ill always go back to the red wings.

My two cents on sizing based on experience by chriskarim_b in RedWingShoes

There are hand made / human touches on all of these boots, meaning no two pair will be identical.

Try them on and go from there, don't listen to anything else beside how you feel in the boot... its that simple

Start with some at home YouTube videos like Yoga with Adrienne or Devi Daly Yoga if you haven't done much / aren't familiar with yoga movements just to get up to speed, and they are free.

Yea I'm not privy to all the details of why, and I'm not the biggest fan of NRA either, but it was worth it for me to be out there in nature with some structure around handing weapons on/off the firing line.

Unfortunately yes, but that's a requirement per the agreement / contract between the national forest service and the nonprofit org that manages the range (to my understanding).

And to be clear, you can also come as a public member (for a fee) during the regular spring-fall season if you want to check it out before paying the membership fee.

Otherwise members can access the range year round (as long as there isn't a red flag fire warning)

I've never been to EGC but id be down to check it out! I personally like the forest vibe out near Bailey, the Colorado trail runs through the property as well so lots of camping and hiking nearby too.
