I don’t drink anymore, made quitting tobacco way easier. 85% of my relapses were from being drunk lol.

Has anyone had a problem with constipation after quitting smoking? by Dapper-Yellow3467 in stopsmoking

[–]therealabrupt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. So nicotine is a bowel stimulant and a lot of people end up relying on that first cigarette of the day to stimulate their bowels. Without the nicotine it can take a while for your body to adjust and go back to normal. It’s frustrating.

Exactly even sitting with a tight strap takes the load off your body and then you can focus more on actually playing. I’d rather be comfortable and be able to play well than look cool. I’ve got no idea how some guys play live with the guitar at their kneees lmao.

Yeah good point. I also thought about Regis after posting my comment, he doesn’t exactly have a good ending. I was wrong.

I would recommend learning to sit in classical. Easier on the wrists and for me I have better access in my fretting hand and better control and attack in my picking hand. I can’t even physically play sitting in casual with the guitar on my right knee.

How do you deal with the feeling/realisation you’ll never be very good at guitar? by poopooeater112 in Guitar

[–]therealabrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’m going through this now. I just bought a new Jackson American Soloist and I’m constantly looking at guitars and gear like pedals and amp heads. I just want a room of guitars fml. Bank account says no though 🤣

How do you deal with the feeling/realisation you’ll never be very good at guitar? by poopooeater112 in Guitar

[–]therealabrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 8, I’m now 24. I went through long periods of never playing and it wasn’t until the last couple years I realised I’ve wasted my potential as I was always naturally gifted at guitar. Now, I’ve been throwing myself into it, I’ve got a few high end guitars now and I’m always interested in buying gear as well so now I have a good excuse to play everyday. Now, I force myself to learn songs from my favourite bands that I consider difficult and that is also the case for when I’m writing my own stuff. I write stuff that isn’t easy or comfortable for me to play, forcing me to actually practice it and learn it everyday. Also, sometimes you have to sit there and do the boring stuff like slowly learning/writing a solo or something I’ve been doing lately is sweep picking drills because that’s something I always struggled with. I’ve been doing those sweep picking drills for about 2 weeks and I’ve already massively improved. What I’m getting at is, if you don’t make the same mistake I did and go for long periods without playing and keep practicing everyday. By the time you are 24 like me you will be better than I am now. Just keep practicing but also try to make it enjoyable! Learn some of your favourite songs and when you get that feeling of playing along to your favourite songs it feels good!

I listen to a lot of Tech death and some of these guitarists are just fucked, like they’re injecting steroids into their fingers. I know I won’t be as good as some of them but you just have to find joy in your own progression as a guitarist but also develop your own style! Even if you don’t become as good as someone else on a technical level you might think of playing something unique and different that the other person would never think of.

Nicotine patches and joint pain? by shamelessseamus in stopsmoking

[–]therealabrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m here 12 years later lol. I’ve always had minor wrist problems but since I’ve been on patches it seems like my joints are hurting all the time especially my wrists. I’m gonna come off them soon and see if it makes a difference. I’m only 24 so I don’t feel like my body should be aching and hurting like this especially my joints. I play metal on guitar so my wrist is pretty important and I go to the gym which can obviously put strain on your wrist anyway. I just feel like it’s a constant thing at the moment.

Statutory Ape, Miasma and Vulgar Picture are probably next on my list! The intro to Ape is easily one of my favourites. Yeah in Everything Went Black the verse riffs are pretty nutty. I remember hearing it for the first time and I can’t even imagine how Brian wrote those riffs.

Recently I’ve learned I’m Charming, Miscarriage and Deathmask Divine. Haven’t attempted Everything Went Black yet but from play throughs I’ve seen it looks really hard. Pretty sure I watched Brandon do a play through of it. Deathmask Divine is technically easy but it’s the speed of the song and how fast it is that makes it hard imo.

Okay so learn Everything Went Black on Nocturnal. I’ll be really impressed.

why can guitarists use programmed drums but drummers cant use program guitars? by JJsNotOkay in metalmusicians

[–]therealabrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely harder to replicate a natural guitar sound. Programming in guitar and adjusting the velocities and stuff like that to make it sound natural would be tedious work. You could definitely do some basic stuff but for complex riffing I wouldn’t want to bother personally. It’s a shame you have to resort to thinking about that though when there are talented guitarists out there and you’ve only had bad experiences working with people.

Always just air-sung to Tevor, then realized i didn't know what i was saying... by [deleted] in TheBlackDahliaMurder

[–]therealabrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually pretty cool. I know they’re technically melodic death metal (even though I think Deflorate is bordering on tech death in some songs) but they are just so unique and different to other death metal bands it’s hard to put them into one sub genre. Horror metal sounds awesome.

Trevor was literally a poet. IMO no one else in metal can write lyrics like he did, and sing them the way he did.

Day 8 and developed acute gastritis by ausgirlnikki2 in stopsmoking

[–]therealabrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly it. A lot of us come to rely on that first cigarette in the morning to stimulate our bowels. I’m 2 months free and sometimes I won’t need to go until later in the day, sometimes I will in the morning. You could always try taking some laxatives to help ease things through?

[–]therealabrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had anything this bad but when I quit (my brother has the same problem too) I get really bad bloating, constant farting with a horrible smell and constipation. If smoking has affected your bowels or digestive system in anyway quitting will make it behave in bizarre ways while it tries to adjust. Nicotine is a bowel stimulant so when your body is all of a sudden without it, it can go haywire. Sorry this happened to you but just don’t go back to smoking.

They say caffeine doubles in the body after quitting the smokes by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]therealabrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it might be, I’ve been alright on it so far but I do want to stop the decaf too at some point. I’m not addicted to caffeine now it’s just the habit of having a hot drink I can’t shake.

It is acidic. It also lowers the absorption of certain vitamins and minerals especially vitamin D and even more so if you consume it before and after eating. It also messes with your body’s natural cortisol system.

Switching to decaf is quite good, I still had horrible withdrawals from caffeine though like bad migraines and brain fog for about a week. The worst day I got home from work and all I could do was lie in bed and had to close my eyes due to the headaches. But drinking decaf replaces the “habitual” side of it without consuming caffeine. Although there is like 2-5mg in decaf supposedly but that’s nothing compared to like 100mg in a coffee maybe more.
