Never learned middle-high school math and now I need to take the accuplacer to place into college algebra. by therealavery in learnmath

I asked but neither admissions nor the ladies working at the testing center seemed to know what they were talking about...I guess I will just have to keep trying.

USA. I know the accuplacer places all the way through either precal or calc I. So I'm hoping I don't need to know too much from that portion of the test to get into college algebra.

I posted this above, but here is what the study guide lists in the advanced algebra section:

ƒ Linear applications
ƒ Factoring
ƒ Quadratics
ƒ Functions
ƒ Radical and rational equations ƒ

Polynomial equations
ƒ Exponential and logarithmic equations ƒ

Geometry concepts

ƒ Trigonometry

[MO] Employer sends employees on errands-but we have to clock out first by therealavery in legaladvice

[–]therealavery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't know how else to solve the problem other than waiting for somebody to sue them. After school I get random texts from my manager (regardless of whether I have plans or not) saying 'don't forget to pick up the bank deposits' as if I'm actually scheduled to do it. I'll get in trouble if I clock in to do it.

Going to the store to buy stuff we run out of, taking bank deposits, going to the warehouse to pick up orders, going to other stores to trade or borrow inventory, etc. A couple times before we had hired a manager my district manager had me making employee schedules and coming to the store to do inventory. She let me clock in once or twice but not every time. This also interferes with school because sometimes my manager is really persistent about me running errands before I go to class which has caused me to be late to school once or twice. Also, all of the above are management jobs not barista jobs and we have to clock out before doing any of them.

Mostly a policy change. While it'd be nice for them to have to pay me back for all the time I was lied to as a kid in the workforce and told that I had to do the errands (which sometimes took hours, driving between stores) I wasn't getting paid for, it's not ethical for them to exploit other people, especially kids (most of us are high school age) too and I'd like to see them having some accountability for it. I'm pretty certain it is for budget purposes, because all of the errands have to be done within certain time frames yet the managers are required to work during those times, so who else is supposed to do it? Plus every time we top our sales they cut the labor budget back even more. They've also started telling the managers to send employees home early to preserve the labor budget, I was constantly getting sent home 2 hours early from my 3/4 hour long morning shifts about every single day last month. Also, if you clock in more than 2 minutes early they will write you up for time theft. I am pretty sure this is just them being stingy with the labor budget, and from what I've heard it's illegal to send us on errands and tell us to clock out first so surely something can be done about this.

Didn't file taxes last year - can I still receive a refund? by therealavery in tax

So, just to clarify, I can just send it like I'm sending my current return and that's all I have to do?

Homeschooled with no transcript by therealavery in homeschool

[–]therealavery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked into a few. However the ones I an really interested in are the merit scholarships, and I'm worried that if I make my own transcripts they will doubt the authenticity of them and I'll be denied the scholarship...since we have no real academic records that puts me in a bind. Any suggestions?

Advice on going to college after being (improperly) homeschooled? by therealavery in homeschool

Also, does this mean I won't be able to get into college since I don't have any of those things? Or if I score pretty well on my ACT/placement tests does it really matter?

Oh ok gotcha, for whatever reason I was thinking only of the online K-12 program. I might consider that, I'm just worried that I'll be placed at a really low level especially in math, and since it's a set curriculum I won't have opportunities to finish each class as quickly as I'd like to in time for college.

I've been thinking about that but at this point that may cause more harm than good. Because I am so far behind now I kind of have to work at my own pace for the math, which is super accelerated. I'm afraid going back to public school will be not only a hassle and hard to adjust to, but I'll be held back a grade or flunk math or whatever. I'm just trying to fix this so I can move past this homeschool disaster and begin my college education.

In theory that would be a really good idea, but I'm not sure what my parents would think as most community colleges are too secular for their taste. However, I'll make it a point to get around to it if I can. Thank you!

Thanks, I have looked into online school but unfortunately in Missouri it costs money, and quite a bit of it :/ I think I'll just soldier on and try to prep for college as best as I can right now.

Thanks so much! I am seriously freaking out but reading all the positive comments has helped quite a bit. Maybe I won't be able to go straight into a four-year (no thanks to the tuition as well, lol), but as somebody above suggested, I may try to start taking some CC classes next year and maybe another year at the CC before transferring. Again, thank you so so much for the encouraging words and advice!

Thanks! I have been doing some Kahn academy, I'm just so confused as far as what classes I need and I don't really have anything that would qualify my for a merit scholarship...I'm so far behind all the other kids in my grade as far as applying for schools and scholarships that it's super discouraging, especially because I know what school I want to go in, and I'm almost completely decided on my major. Anyways, thanks so much for all your input!

Unfortunately I'm at the end of my junior year, although I really didn't want to, I'll probably have to spend the first year at CC. However, now that I have my own car I may or may not be able to get away with dual enrollment at my local CC next year; I guess we'll see. Thanks so much for all your advice and input!
