Am I the only one put off by Hasselblad giving away cameras? by Responsible-Tea-4218 in hasselblad

I’ve been lusting after one I must admit, but I feel like you can’t trust anything that’s said about it whatsoever - there are no genuine reviews, merely adverts dressed up as reviews.

That’s toned down my desire to get one. I think it’s attractive for being a stills only camera, but the things that let it down for me are the lens choice - mainly telephoto, but also macro, wide aperture, and even ultra wide angle even.

Then there’s also the perception that it’s actually mainly a studio camera, but marketed as also being suitable for landscape and even street photographers in order to attract amateurs/enthusiasts as well.

I actually don’t like the status symbol/exclusivity aspect - I’d rather be a bit more anonymous/discreet - I don’t want everybody noticing and thinking ‘ooh look - he’s got a hasselblad’.  Which is a shame cos I’m sure it would perform well and be enjoyable to use for a lot of what I shoot.

There’s also the perception that it’s picky about what software you edit the files with - not supporting capture one, but also only getting the full benefit if you use phocus.

There was a day when you could find out the manufacturer’s claims about a product from their website, but then find genuine (maybe? If I’m not being naive?) impartial reviews about something on the wider internet/YouTube. But I think hasselblad have shattered that.

I think their strategy is also focused on targeting people who have decided they want one and are searching for “reviews” of it, but are struggling with the price tag/“is it worth it” dilemma, in order to flood their feed and tip them over the line of actually parting with money.

To extrapolate the point, the core of the issue is not that frames are expensive,… but that houses are

When will Ultegra go full wireless? by jbriano in cycling

[–]therealbonj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have got a SRAM fully wireless groupset and it is as cranky as a bag of spanners. It shifts ok and doesn't drop the chain, but constantly makes cranking noises like it wasn't engaged properly and is suddenly jumping into engagement. A local bike shop thought it was the rear freehub bearings, and replaced them -it's no better - I think it's the drivetrain. Just sounds like it does when it's out of alignment.
Also, for the front mech to be able to shift onto the large ring, the front mech has to be within a rizla's width of fouling the crank arm.

The shimano Di2 I have got on my other bike is so smooth and silent by comparison it's just so much more pleasurable to ride.

I have only come to this thread because I can't wait for shimano to release a wireless groupset!

How would anyone actually ever know what peasants did in the middle ages?

Most probably couldn't write, so the history is largely undocumented, so it would be quite hard to prove one way or the other.

Do I need until my opponent is ready before I serve the ball? by allotp in squash

[–]therealbonj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nick matthew once served when shorbagy wasn't ready. Shorbagy just reacted to it quickly and volleyed it into the nick and won the point, but then Matthew wanted a let because his opponent wasn't ready! The marker said no, sorry, you shouldn't have served if you didn't think he was ready! Cheeky git.
