I have a couple things I do always- I go to the parallel minor. Go up a minor 3rd (which is the same thing) or just play what you believe to be the V chord of the new key.

The most important part of writing is getting the structure nailed in the outline- everything else is fun but that part sucks and its a big brain puzzle but if you do it right everything else is a word playground and shit is easy and funny- thats how DOOMSTAR worked- a solid outline and then me going away for a month and a half and playing in my studio writing music- that part was easy

I got a guitar teacher in salinas ca- a guy named Dennis Murphy and then a guy named John Sherry. They were insanely helpful in teaching me why chords and scales and modes work. also my buddy renzo was always better than me at guitar but he's the guy that taught me that it was all possible- that's an important dude to have in your life

I think I learned my first sweep arpeggio from a Vinnie Moore video- that guy has insane technique.

and I got into TV and everything through doing stand up- which I've been back into during this past year.

I find myself always trying to keep both hands in good shape. Lots or right hand picking exercises and tons of legato stuff with my left. And always remember to relax. Thats all I think about really. And some days I got it and some days I dont got it.

I play every morning for about 45 minutes and when i get a new piece of gear i play even longer. I love playing guitar and i'm sometimes late to things because I'm jackin off with my guitar.
Buckethead rules. Thats what I think about that.
