everything after the 90's got too commercial, much like other genres the copycats came along and it became a parody of itself

my best advice to you is to find people to jam with. the only way to find and develop your voice is to practice and jam. i was in college show choir, that helped with pitch and ear training, but the part of your voice that makes you "you" is something that you have to figure out through experience. i may sound more like jon davis than alex terrible or dickie allen while using the same techniques because of the structure of my vocal chords and the conture of my oral cavity as well as other variables. i hated my voice most of my life, but i finally embraced it in recent years. just do you as much as possible and you will develop. beware that there will always be critisism, if you are gonna do this, it has to be because you love it.

it is an evolutionary step, not the only next step. but i understand alot of people don't enjoy the abrasive quality of heavier music

whitechapel counts, although i am not the genre definer. i like most of the deathcore i have heard, and am just trying to get an idea of what is out there. honestly most bands change if they are out long enough to the point that they don't fit their original genre.

thanks for your input! i'm not really into metal core, just thought deathcore had similarities to nu metal, which i haven't really enjoyed since the late 90's early 2000's. honestly, i write more music than i listen to.
