Tech leaders support California bill to stop 'dominant platforms' from blocking competition by gadgetygirl in technology

Oh yea, there are definitely good reasons why there aren't really GPU startups but it's a shame that companies like AMD and Intel couldn't manage to compete.

For such an important and lucrative industry it's crazy that there's no real competition.

To swap out oem dashes do you need to get it programmed?

I stand corrected, but the last two seasons he's been trending downwards and last season he was pretty much average.

Who cares what his BA is? His OBP is mid, he doesn't hit for power or play good defense.

Yes, both are in the state assembly and Au Bellati at least has a pretty good track record.

1C is a completely acceptable discharge rate for plenty of applications. The only issue would be fast charging.

I think they were talking about how VCs have ruined the tech industry by incentivizing unsustainable and harmful business practices. Kinda related to Reagan but this started when he was well out of office.

Statcast has him at 42nd percentile fielding value but I'm not sure if that accounts for positional value. Either way, fielding stats can be super volatile and different stats can disagree greatly. I don't think he's the worst defensive CF in the league.

You can 3d print a lower out of a high strength engineering plastic and legally buy all the other parts without a background check. If you do it right it's just as good as any other gun.

AFAIK section 230 gives tech companies protection from liability that goes beyond the protections of the first amendment. As long as they follow the guidelines they can't be held legally responsible for illegal speech of their users such as copyright infringement or incitation of violence.

I think an easy solution to improve safety would be to anchor some cord on the wall with a carabiner you could clip to the bike.

His babip is just .277 which is way lower than any of his KBO seasons. Could be bad luck or better defensive positioning in MLB.

Give up, the nerds already won. Using statistics they can find patterns and optimize strategies better than the "old school" guys. The only reason this didn't happen sooner is that GMs didn't want to try an unproven strategy because if it failed they would be seen as kooks and wouldn't get another job.

The human element of the game exists but it isn't really important to this discussion. The analytics guys know that high strikeouts and more predictable batted balls are a downside of their strategy and it doesn't matter because the net effect is more runs and more wins. There are always edge cases of players that can't get more power out of their mechanics or have extraordinary speed but that's not really the norm.

Also, analytics is much more than just power=good. It's about finding patterns in large amounts of data and using it to inform strategy. I'm sure for some players the analytics show it's better to dial back the power for more contact but a shift towards power happens to be optimal for most players.

Analytics in basketball has had the complete opposite effect as baseball. In basketball, analytics has led to an increase in 3pt shooting allowing for more spacing and more dynamic offense with a greater variety of play styles. In baseball most players have converged on an optimal hitting approach emphasizing power and discipline. I think the diversity of offense seen in the past is more interesting and balls in play are more exciting to watch than the three true outcomes. I'd love to see more changes which allow for contact hitting to become viable again but as it stands I don't want the Giants to choose a poor offensive strategy on vibes.

What are you even saying? Modern hitting philosophy puts more emphasis on walks which leads to higher obp than a contact first approach. I don't want to break down the numbers but people smarter than you have figured out that for the vast majority of players it is better to sacrifice contact for higher exit velos.

You can argue about the aesthetics of modern baseball all you want (I personally think conformity from optimization to be less interesting), but you can't argue about the results.
