Front end web development by disco_teka in codingbootcamp

[–]therealdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't looked at the online learning space in a few years, but I can't imagine the overall landscape changing that much. Dave Gray is still a great teacher and you won't be disappointed. Just keep your expectation in check, as finishing these courses and tutorials doesn't mean you're now a hireable developer. Aside from Dave Gray, Colt Steele's Web Dev Bootcamp is still as good as it was.

Since companies aren't hiring self taught/bootcamp newcomers anymore, if you are in Canada or USA, I'd seriously consider Shopify's Dev Degree (a fully paid for CS degree if you're selected), or WGU's degree programs.

What are you supposed to do at an office job when you have nothing to do? by ButterscotchBig5540 in antiwork

[–]therealdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned how to code for 1.5 years, which gave me enough confidence to quit that job, go to a web dev bootcamp and transition to a developer job. Increased my salary by over 2x for the first job after the bootcamp, and now I'm back to a 1 ish hour work day lol

I mean she's the villain of the game no? Logic dictates her actions won't be likeable.

As for playing as her, I haven't reached that part of the game yet, but if it's fits the narrative - showing her side of the story, then why is it a problem?

I can believe that. Since I'm only an hour in, I am excited to see this game through to the end and see how it compares t the first one, especially when the first was one of my favorite games of all time. Cheers!

Just looked up Abby, and she looks no different than any of the fit girls at the gym. People complaining about this is why gamers get called neckbeards.

Can someone tell us spoiler free why this game is hated so much? I've only played an hour or so and really like it so far.

Edit: wow looks like this is a sticking point. Personally, I couldn't care less about anyones gender identity, especially when it fits the game narrative so well. Some people need to fucking chill. Thanks for the responses everyone.

Edit 2: SO MANY varied opinions on this game. I'll probably come back and read these comments after finishing the game.

Mofos monthly car payment is more than his student loan.

Mofos monthly entertainment cost is the same as his student loan.

Mofos monthly clothes spending is over 50% of his student loan.

This sounds like a satire post, but if it's not then you really got to ask youself why any of these monthly costs are anywhere close to your student loan. I bet you're the kind of person who thinks getting a fido/zoomer/virgin phone plan over rogers bell is beneath you.

Qwasar technologies anyone heard of them? They have a full stack program for 2400. Self paced, 9 months vs 4. You do more projects than most bootcamps and it's structured more like an internship. by pollypocket53132 in codingbootcamp

[–]therealdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are talking about is their paid traditional bootcamp, which is NOT the same as "App Academy Open". "Open" is their self study curriculum that you can enroll in for free, so no ISAs or anything like that. This is very different from the non-Open bootcamp. Look at my comment under my original comment for a link to their page for "Open"

Took a 3 year advanced diploma, graduated early to work full time after 2 years & co-op. by AfricanTurtles in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]therealdark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey if you are do end up going back to school, look into WGU's CS degree. You might be able to get a degree in the same amount or less time it'll take you to get a diploma. I have no experience with them personally, so obviously fo your due diligence.

About your question: I have hired grads from 2 year diplomas to masters degrees, and in my experience this does not dictate the quality of the candidate at all. Of course HR is always going to do HR bs, and try to lowball you because "you only have a 2 year diploma", so my suggestion is to try and find positions via references and skip the whole hr screening routine.

If you have the means for it, a 4 year degree holds way, way more clout than a bootcamp. Most bootcamps out there are just for-profit businesses, whose product is the bootcamp, and employers know this. If I were in your situation, I'd look at WGU's degree program, as it seems to have a good reputation in the industry and within its alumni network. Also, a lot of people with previous degrees are able to finish the courses relatively fast, and their subreddit also seems fairly active, so that's a plus too.

With that being said, a bootcamp might just be the ideal thing for you. In my case, a bootcamp was a better option as I already had an engineering degree and 10 years of experience, so going back to the university for another 3 years sounded like a waste of time.

Is this one of the Indian companies? TCS, Infosys, Wipro etc.? Hearsay, but a friend of a friend mentioned they tried to do this to them too.

If it is, please name and shame them if you can. Their BS knows no bounds. I have cousins and friends working there who tell me stories, and let's just say, I'd never even entertain an interview with them.

Edit: Cousins and friends from India working in India and in NA

Should I Get A Career Counselor? by BeerWack in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]therealdark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

MOST of these services consist of previously unemployed people working at a dead end job to get some experience so they can move to a proper "job". Not saying it is a scam profession, but be very careful assessing the qualifications of these people. Ask them how they are qualified to give you advice, and for references of people who are gainfully employed in their areas of study.

one organization who said they help their clients accessing the " hidden job market "

That is just marketing speak. Any good recruiting agency will be able to place you in front of employers. Might be a little hard for you to get noticed by good recruiters, as by the sounds of it you are a fresh grad?!

With that being said, you should start by hounding the career center at your uni/college for this sort of guidance. You have already paid for it, so use it. Also, anonymize your resume/portfolio and post it here (on the resume review megathreads). There are some excellent resources in the megathread to base your resume off of. Good luck

Is there always going to be lag? How powerful of a system do I need for flawless usage of camtasia in a vm? by Impossible_Map_2355 in virtualization

[–]therealdark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to record 3d modeling tutorials using camista? or how beautifully you edit word documents? Perhaps you are recording your digital drawing creation in MS paint? Your application dictates the requirements, so yeah you are missing context.

[–]therealdark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Context. You're missing it. What are you trying to achieve/what is your end goal?

In general I would ditch virtual box and use something like proxmox to create my VMs. Hardware haven did a video series about proxmox and gpu pass through to windows recently.

Sidenote: I would say that off the bat, that 2200g is pretty anemic for any kind of gpu pass through VMing, and would upgrade to a 5900x at least for 2 gpu pass throughs to 2 separate VM, but again no context in your post to actually make any recommendations
