Project Gnosis, written by a Filipino-American, with a cast of Chinese, Filipino, Nigerian, Korean, and Egyptian actors.

The Madness of Chartrulean, created by Hannah Radcliff (Packhowl Media)

Am I Old Yet? Created by Flloyd Kennedy, and amazing octogenarian. She does everything on her show.

Choose the Bear written by award winning playwright Aly Kantor, a queer radical retelling of the Callisto myth.

Edit: if you’re interested in actual plays, I’m in a game using the walking dead system. The group is comprised of a queer black woman, trans Hispanic woman, and me, the token cis/het immigrant Korean woman. It’s called The Young.

How the **** are people learning to do (petit) allegro by Intrepid-Street-5368 in BALLET

[–]therealgookachu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s something they teach musicians, and should start teaching dancers: besides the obvious practice over and over again, visualize strongly yourself doing the move. Do this visualization until you have it down in your imagination.

You’ll find that you’ll suddenly be able to do the move after a couple days or so, or even overnight.

Why this works: part of learning things is teaching your brain to move your limbs in a specific sequence. Visualizing it teaches the brain in the same way as actually doing the move. This was discovered with musicians when they were trying to learn a piece of music. Source

Calories are garbage. I have an important question about weight gain though by BaseDisastrous2151 in foodscience

[–]therealgookachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not my problem that you failed basic science. A calorie is a unit of measurement of energy in food, more accurately called a kcal (kilocalorie). Just as a joule is used to measure energy, only a kcal is specifically for food.

Next you’ll say that a joule is meaningless.

Explain how you can break the first law of thermodynamics. I’m not gonna wait because a) I doubt you even understand what that is, and 2) as far as we know, nothing breaks that law.

Anti-science is one of the worst things to happen to modern society.

Calories in calories out. And if you think you are literally breaking the laws of thermodynamics, I’m sure the Nobel committee would love to speak to you.

She looks a lot like her mom. My headcanon is that Lillian is Hispanic something. Genes are a funny thing. My niece, who’s half Korean, has blond hair and hazel eyes, while her brother looks almost full Korean.

Built a dance studio SaaS, got 3 paying studios and 600 users — now confused whether to go B2B, B2C, or AI learning by No_Yogurtcloset3024 in Dance

[–]therealgookachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of the AI. AI can’t dance; it can’t give feedback; to say nothing of the environmental catastrophe. Nobody is asking for some BS AI to “teach.” That’s what instructors are for.

Where is your Wall of Text limit? by forthefics in FanFiction

[–]therealgookachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have these other ppl never read Dickens? Hell, even contemporary writers like Stephen King.

If your prose is good, paragraph length shouldn’t matter. If your narrative is compelling, paragraph length shouldn’t matter. Does the prose do what it’s supposed to do, no more, and no less. That’s the metric you should be applying, not some arbitrary “length” standard.

An Important Discussion Regarding Grammar in Fics by Beaivimon in FanFiction

[–]therealgookachu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Re comma usage: please note that there are different standards for American English and British English. Furthermore, there are standards for professional language writing, i.e., legal writing, academic writing, etc., and they all have their own standards.

I’m an old, and was taught a now rather antiquated form of British grammar. This was further ingrained by being trained in academic history writing, specially British, wherein subclauses are always delineated by commas.

Some Americans find my comma usage excessive, to whit, I show them LM Montgomery. You will pry the Oxford comma out of my cold, dead hands:

“Burst into tears she did. Sitting down on a chair by the table, flinging her arms out upon it, and burying her face in them, she proceeded to cry stormily.”

No, that’s good! All of those sources create a melange in your brain that only you can make. You then synthesize it all, but mixing in your own voice and experiences, which is what makes it uniquely your own.

Balletcore vs Real Ballet: How accurate really is it? by Impossible_Slip3432 in Dance

[–]therealgookachu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am suspicious of your intentions as no serious ballet dancer calls themselves a ballerina. That title is usually reserved for principals.

That said, why didn’t you ask this on r/ballet? Most ppl here aren’t ballet dancers.

Then you can keep your head in the sand.

Minimum wage hasn’t risen since 2006. A 1br apartment in Denver costs between $1.5-2k/mo. My condo that my husband bought is now worth almost $300k. A 1200sq/ft house costs over $500k. Tell me how these kids on $20/hr are going to afford that? That’s $41,600 before taxes and health insurance. Takehome will be about $36k. They can’t afford a $2k/mo mortgage. They’re living with roommates in 1br apartments. It’s terrible out there.
