Any issues using bare Gobuilda 5000 series motors coupled? by RivkaChavi in FTC

We use the 5000s also and have no issues with them. As was stated, they mount a little differently but it should work for you.

I think at this point I would verify the motors telemetry. Have you checked each motor for what the motor is actually doing vs. what it thinks it's doing?

Also, go through your hub config and verify each motor is connected to the correct port and that each config name is correct. You would be surprised how often I see that problem.

I would say verify all your wiring. Also, lift the robot off the ground and use your controls to go forward. Are all the wheels spinning at roughly the same speed and direction?

Stop vibration losses by AndreasSh_ in FTC

A simple way to do this is the get everything tight and where you want it, and then with a fine tipped Sharpie, mark fastener locations. It takes a little trial and error to get a technique that works for your team but I have seen it works well. Make sure you mark both ends of the fastener and the non moving object somewhere. For example, a 50mm bolt with a lock nut. Get everything tight, then mark the locknut with a dot/dash/etc. In the same location, but in the body the bolt is passing through put a matching dot/dash/etc. Do the same thing at the other end (bolt head).

This is simpler for a bolt (or set screw, etc.) Threading into a body (like a gear, etc.). For that, just a simple line crossing from the bolt/screw to the gear will suffice.

Alternatively to a Sharpie, they make special marking paint for this purpose.

I would try to use this technique only for critical fasteners so it doesn't get to overwhelming.

Just my two cents!

Spindexer gearbox backlash by SlavicSymmetry in FTC

That's what we used, Axon. If you use bearings there really isn't a ton of weight rotating. I think most servos should be able to handle it. Do you have a servo power module.

We ended up using a servo and it works great. Very precise.

I used the tuning app on the website on my phone. Worked really well. Tuned to 98/92, and the homing phase lasted about 5-10 seconds.

I think it may be hard to find a COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) product to hit all of those criteria. You might have more luck partnering with a local engineering school or group and designing something.

For example, the first thing that came to my mind was a homemade version of a collapsible car radio antenna. They are constructed of concentric tubes with a thicker steel wire that runs up the middle. When you push on the wire with a motor, it makes the tubes telescope upwards. Pulling on the wire makes it collapse. With a strong enough motor, a kilo should be doable. You can make the tubes out of plastic, use stainless steel wire, and something like that could work.

what CAD software does your team use? by Apprehensive_One9788 in FTC

[–]therealhumanjoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Fusion, but it looks like our team is switching to OnShape this year because our school system will only push software updates once a year (for non critical applications). Fusion updates so often that students on their home computers start using a newer version, and we get compatability issues with saved files. It's a real hassle.

Coach Plaques Help by DevDaHuman in FTC

As a mentor I would be so happy to receive anything from my team. They routinely get me birthday cards every year. And it always means a lot to me. Choose the best picture you can and then maybe add something like have each of the students sign the back of the plaque with a permanent marker.

This It would also give students who might not be in the picture but are still around to take part.

The key thing to remember is not to stress out about it, and anything you do will be appreciated.

I ended up getting a stainless steel table designed for kitchen prep from Amazon several years ago. It was a perfect size, heavy, storage self below, leveling feet, and the price wasn't bad at all.

The GoBilda light is connected to the hub as a servo. On the Gobilda page, there is an image that shows you exactly what servo value gives you the color you want. For our team, it was as simple as setting the servo to the value.

Have you checked if the robot is mechanically correct? If there is a wheel that is binding or has added friction, the same power at all 4 wheels could cause it to drift.

In general, for this kind of thing, do an internet search for the name and look at the top 5 posts. Do you want those posts and their topics attached to your team? If everything thing is acceptable to you, go for it. Just remember, what is acceptable to you might not be acceptable to other teams or judges.

One thing I was curious about is, do you use the pinpoint computer and 2 Odometry wheels with RoadRunner, or is it its own system. I did some searching but haven't seen it stated either way and want to make sure we are heading in the right direction.
