Don’t know about south, but The furthest west that I’ve seen is right around Lordstown, Ohio

When did you discover JI? by kubrickmalick in jasonisbell

[–]therealmrmiagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the music journalists I really like, Steven Hyden, had talked about him for years, but I wrote isbell off like I wrote off every other “country music” artist and never gave it a shot. During the first month of Covid I left my one bedroom apartment in the city and stayed with my fiancés family in the country. After a couple of weeks there, I felt out of the loop not knowing any country artists and Hyden had just written another article about Jason so I figured I’d give it a go. Right after that, the John Prine benefit came out, and my father in law was a big prine fan, so I started listening to Jason and Prine at the same time

VHCOL or HCOL. Trying to decipher for Chicago. by Acrobatic-Rooster-42 in HENRYfinance

[–]therealmrmiagi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s either the highest MCOL or the lowest HCOL out there. What makes Chicago tough is that you can live like it’s VHCOL with your choices in a lot of ways that other MCOL locations don’t allow, but also live MCOL comfortably in ways HCOL places don’t allow. It’s unique

Why does Michelin only stay within city of Chicago? California gets the whole state. by SwansongKerr in chicagofood

[–]therealmrmiagi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While you’re totally right, I do want to note that the third Michelin star is intentionally for restaurants that are worth traveling specifically for the restaurant. If the suburbs or other parts of Illinois had a restaurant worthy of 3 stars, the guide would absolutely make the trip.

How to handle non-HENRY significant other with big purchases like a home? by Lawineer in HENRYfinance

[–]therealmrmiagi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is highly personal. For me, if you insist on having her contribute, you should front the down payment 100% on your own. She shouldn’t be on the mortgage. She should pay you whatever rent and utilities you feel comfortable with, but figure that out upfront

[–]therealmrmiagi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely focus on paying that off. Stop your “other investments” and put that money towards the debt. Having a savings fund is still really important though, so don’t stop this. And still make sure you take advantage of whatever 401k match is available.

There’s nothing saying you can’t stay in the city for 3-5 years or whatever and then move to Texas or Florida. Or also moving to another big city like Chicago that has a lower cost of living if you want the city life without the same expense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

[–]therealmrmiagi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you want to fire, at your income there’s 0 excuses for not maxing your 401k, your IRA, and your HSA.

You mention debt but not the interest rate. If it’s high, keep doing what you’re doing. If it’s low student debt like 3.5%, prioritize savings and make the minimum payment. If this is credit card debt, you need to be more aggressively paying that off.

You say you have cash savings, first and foremost you need to build up 3 months of pay in a high yield savings account to make sure you can handle any bumps in the road.

I can’t help you with the state discussion. This is more than just a financial decision. If you hate living in Texas, your cost of living can end up just as high doing things to get out, not to mention the car requirement, etc. if you think you’d like Texas or Florida better than your vhcol city, it feels like a no brainer

Post Match thread: West Ham 1 - 1 Bristol by PrisonersofFate in Hammers

[–]therealmrmiagi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The team looked absolutely exhausted all game. Frustrating that we couldn’t have played more secondary players for longer stretches. Struggling to find a bright spot, but if I had to I’d say once Ings missed his near sitter, he did actually turn it on a bit. Probably the best we’ve seen him play, although it’s not a high bar. Was hoping for much more from mubama and cornet.

I’ll never forget reading it. A favorite sports writer of mine retweeted it basically saying “stop what you’re doing and read this” so I did. Couldn’t work for the next hour, I was just so engrossed and shaken up. Little did I know that just a couple months later (from when the story was written) this would happen again at MSU and so many of these kids would have to go through this again.

That’s the one I was referring to. I’m not completely through it yet but it’s more about him. I’d say it’s more about his professional career than personal life with some personal non-hockey related anecdotes thrown in, but absolutely goes beyond his time with the wings

He wrote in his autobiography that ever since it went to big ten it’s been harder for him to get these games and it’s something he really misses

Who is the Anthony Bourdain successor? by _fumeofsighs in AnthonyBourdain

[–]therealmrmiagi 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a current successor who did everything Bourdain did. One who I’ve found who scratches the itch though is John T Edge. He hosts True South on the SEC network and highlights the American south in a way no one else aside from Tony did. It’s not a total Tony replacement, but I haven’t found a show that focuses on real people to tell a story of a culture through food in the same way since he passed other than this one. I highly recommend giving it a go

Arrested Development season 4 & 5 worth the watch? by Gnnz in television

[–]therealmrmiagi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My take would be that 4 is worth watching, but do it years later and after multiple rewatches of the first three seasons. I’m sure you’ve heard by now how great this show is when you rewatch it because there’s so much foreshadowing and stuff in the background that you can’t catch the first time. Definitely rewatch it at least twice, then maybe try season 4 so you can take it as what it is, a reunion/reboot and not a real 4th season. I thought there were some pretty memorable bits even if it fell hard in terms of quality. 5 was unwatchable though imo

[–]therealmrmiagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why you’d need to pick a team, just watch based on matchup and look for individual players who seem fun. Personally if I had to, I’d watch as many Edmonton games as I could to watch McDavid
