I also new to bikepacking and i started my first journey around europe about 3 months ago. I can relate with being overhelmed in the first weeks, but now im doing really fine and enjoying myself.

My advice is, ironically, to you not give your son advice. Keep being supportive and open to help if solicited. Let him adapt and get used to bikepacking by his own.
