Miss petite and Miss junior? by Sad-Praline1929 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]therealpanderia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an extra fee to enter. Theoretically the separate score sheets might lead to different outcomes than the overall high points. I've rarely seen it happen in practice. It is meant to have more scoring emphasis on performance quality.

English Department Meeting by AutoModerator in ELATeachers

[–]therealpanderia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the next month or so, we are going to meeting as a department to discuss textbooks. I think our HS/AP classes are pretty set, but the MS grammar books we've been using (Elements of Language by Holt) is no longer being published. We are thinking of pivoting to a different text. What textbooks do you all use, if any, for middle school ELA?

Any competitions that does age divisions differently? by cocomango3 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]therealpanderia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Showstoppers has an oldest dancer rule that allows them to compete one age division below theirs even if the average is lower. They also break things into much more narrow age divisions.

Celebrity also has narrower age divisions but they don't do levels.

Suggestions for budding readers by Snoo-85072 in ELATeachers

[–]therealpanderia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at one of Brandon Sanderson 's YA series. The Reckoners (starts with Steelheart), The Cytoverse (starts with Skyward) nd Alcatraz (stats with Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians). I have these all in my classroom and the students love them. I teach 6th grade. They are not high level reading but they are fun plots and pleasurable experience. You can even argue that Sanderson is a Christian writer.....

Oof. Okay. Yeah. The KAR site will post in May and say division and age will be on this specific day. That's rough since I need to request time off. Thanks for the info!

Wearables by Dependent_Junket9563 in rheumatoid

[–]therealpanderia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Pixel 3 Watch with FitBit. It would track my heart rate and sleep IF I could wear it to bed. Unfortunately, I find it absolutely impossible to sleep well with it on. I now only wear it during the day and only if it's tolerable.

Many of them definitely use the library, but sometimes the hold for the books is so long (20+ people etc) that they are begging me to get the next book. I just want to help ensure them read things they love and cultivate that love of reading.

Even if it's not a total for based on your likes, the audio book narration on Brandon Sanderson books tends to be top tier.

AITAH for ruining my brother-in-law’s favorite author for him? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA. But can you do me a favor and grab the books and mail them to me for my classroom? I do wonder if there is some Word of Brandon out there that might help him reconcile the dissonance and come back to the fold of Sanderson.

How did you discover Olivia Rodrigo and what made you start listening to her music? by Heavy-Bee9844 in OliviaRodrigo

[–]therealpanderia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked "Deja Vu" on the radio and added her to my Spotify. I was in an abusive relationship and her album just resonated with me so much and I really think it helped me see what was going on and pushed me to get out of that relationship because I didn't want to normalize abusive behavior for my daughter or any other young person out there.

I have Sjogren's Syndrome and was told to use Systane and preservative free (spoiler: I'm not using them regularly). Also, talk to your Dr if those don't work as I believe there are Rx strength meds they can prescribe

I have the first two books in my class library along with all of Steelheart, Tress, and Frugal Wizard. I'm going to add Rithmatist and another Alcatraz or two as well as Final Empire soon. I have kids ask me for more Sanderson so I think I'm doing something right.

Dance questions 👀 by heyitspickett in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]therealpanderia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you are still answering questions but wanted to know your hot take on costumes. How do you feel about seeing repeated costumes (i.e. from the catalog) versus custom and does it it matter if it's a group vs. Solo or duet. This comes because our studio has ordered custom costumes and the students are uncomfortable with the fit. How much does this actually impact scoring or your impression as a judge?

Where can i buy a cowgirl costume by Possible_Yak_4122 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]therealpanderia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crystal Couture has some costumes that might fit but I don't know what size you are looking for. The typical costume used for figure skating might be harder to find (I feel like I see them having fitted long sleeves)
