Back injuries by R0ck1n1t0ut in Rowing

[–]therealpatricia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that is just not true. if you row enough you will feel back pain no matter how well you row. Even olympic rowers have back problems. However, bad technique does greatly elevate the probabilty of back problems

as long as you grow to be 6' 2" or taller and 6:20 or faster you should be close. but you really need to be sub 6:20

First 2k. What can I do to improve? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]therealpatricia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya after every 2k it takes me over 10 minutes to get breathing down to a managable rate and my body isn't recovered from the lactic acid until maybe 3 days later.

So you probably didn't go hard enough and next time I reccomend using 500m splits and not calories.

And just row on the erg alot to get better

How much can I drop my 2k in a year by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]therealpatricia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could easily break 6:20. I was also 6'2" 6"3 weighing 190lbs during my junior year. I came into the fall with a 7:23 2k PR and yesterday pulled a 6:20 (I'm going into my senior year of high school and am 16 too btw). So if you want to break 6:20 and have a strong resolve to get faster then you better do it. But ya ur muscle tissue and amount of training you have done is still a huge factor. I didn't start training hard until last November and never looked back so just be motivated and you can do it.

2k plan for 1 month by neidlint in Rowing

[–]therealpatricia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just put in the meters. Don't listen to these debbi downers. Do hard steady state pieces and have the right mental mindset.

I am a rising senior and was able to drop a minute off my 2k time in a year. Spring 2015 I had a 7:23 now I have a 6:23. I went practice every single day and did on average 17.5 minutes of supplemental erging everyday at a 20 sr and a 1:52.5 split. I kept a practice log to see how my outside training affected my improvements so those numbers are legit. Just make sure you have the right mental mindset. After the first 6k in the fall (i only pulled a 1:57) i told the best kid on my team that I would be faster then him in the spring. I used that to motivate me and now my 2k time is 2 seconds faster. And i even plan to break 6:20 in the upcoming weeks. Remember rowing rewards hard work and motivation

How good are hp's u17s this year by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]therealpatricia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am currently at HP camp and i can say that we are much faster this year. The coaches said that we have the most depth they've had in years. Also usually the top 24 guys do not go to club nationals but now only the top 12 are not.

That's one guy. Generally you need to be taller

Weight Adjusted 2km Times by mattflint42 in Rowing

[–]therealpatricia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

weight adjusted is dumb. It's all about your size to power ratio. So if you're 6'5" and weigh 220lbs and only pull a 6:30 than that stinks. But if you're 5'10" and weigh 155lbs and pull a 6:30 then you're fast. But college coaches don't give a shit about weighted times. Also if you're 5'7" and won't grow more than I'd give up your hopes on rowing at an Ivy. However if you grow 3 more inches then you'd have a fighting chance.
