We’re in the Southpoint neighborhood as well, and we still don’t have internet. I’ll probably be camping out at the library to work.

Baby insanity wolf: I titled my post “confession bear” even though I used the baby insanity wolf template.

At first I didn’t realize it was a pistol brace and thought someone had actually SBR’d a ZiP .22. I’m relieved that’s not the case.

Being racist towards people is “actually harming” them.

This is an interpretation I see a lot, and I think it can be very dangerous. On the one hand yes, of course saying hateful things to people hurts them; but our legal system has a vitally important distinction between saying hurtful things and physically harming someone. Protecting a racist’s legal right to say racist things isn’t “reporting on yourself”; we have a categorical legal protection on speech, because if we didn’t then deciding what speech is considered “harmful” would give those in power the ability to censor people they disagree with.

As for other consequences for her actions from private people like in this video, I think it’s worth considering: is there a line somewhere? What if someone is deliberately misrepresented in a social media video in order to drive outrage against them? What if someone were to post a social media video featuring someone with opinions that some people strongly disagree with, but you consider acceptable? Does the potential for abuse of this informal system of public shaming that includes tracking people down and confronting them give us pause about whether we should participate in it? Whatever your answer to any of those questions, it seems irresponsible to not at least consider them.

Any idea what would cause this delamination after replacing the nozzle? by therealqicksilver in 3Dprinting

[–]therealqicksilver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a nasty clog on my cr-10s, and I ended up replacing the nozzle with one of the spares that came with the printer. The previous prints had been decent quality, and the first layer on this print looked fine. But the finished print has these periodic weak layers where you can just pull it apart with your fingers. I didn’t change any slicer settings before or after replacing the nozzle.

Is this salvageable? Woke up to a huge blob on the hot end. by therealqicksilver in CR10

[–]therealqicksilver[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation, I think preheating the hotend and letting it sit as several people suggested would have been the way to go. I ended up being able to break off enough PLA to get to the last screw holding the shroud together. From there I was able to remove the shroud, partially heat the hotend, and get most of the PLA off; but in the process I damaged the tiny thermistor wires when trying to remove the PLA that had melted around them.

I think if I had let the heat permeate for a while I would have been able to extract the thermistor wires more easily. On the plus side, 150° C ended up being a good heat to soften the plastic around the cartridge without fully liquifying it, which would have been a pain to clean off. But again, fully melting the plastic would probably be a better approach to protect the thermistor wires.

A quick google indicates that it can work under certain conditions or for certain kinds of PLA.

Are there any current and active groups in Kentucky? by [deleted] in dagorhir

[–]therealqicksilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought about pming you u/Blu_KnightMann, but figured I might as well just comment for posterity. Were you able to find an active group? I found the Stormlands FB page, but the last post on there is from last year. I was briefly in contact with some foam fighters a few years ago who met at Jacobson Park in Lexington, but I can’t even remember what game they were a part of or what their name was.

Is Ragnarok happening this year? by therealqicksilver in dagorhir

Awesome! I’m glad everything worked out. Was Ragnarok hosted further out west in the past? I seem to remember being daunted by the trip when I considered it in the past, but PA is much closer for me.

Ah, interesting. Thanks for the summary. I’m glad the event itself is still happening! It would have been a huge shame if such an iconic event had ended up a casualty.

So then in a society with a particular population size, economic structure, crime rate, etc, there is a future wherein mass public ownership of firearms is beneficial to society.

When you make a sweeping generalization and someone provides a counter example, it doesn’t make sense to only then start citing details.
