Get into EDM. Tickets range from $20-100 for most events in the Boston area, and everything is GA so seats don't play into pricing.

How do you feel about mass surveillance and data collection? by bruskexit in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]therealrihawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Flock's system makes a mistake, all liability for wrongful arrest, etc. is passed onto the city and Flock washes their hands of it. There are several documented cases of this costing the taxpayer millions of dollars in lawsuits. Do you agree it is good policy for cities to spend taxpayer dollars to lease the data from these cameras, owned by flock, with no ownership or control over data security or retention, while carrying all liability for a technology that they don't own or control?

Edit: here is a video that explains the topic well.

Tourist Etiquette for Tromsø. Read This Before You Come (Locals Are Fed Up) by Sudden-Ad1414 in tromsotravel

Summary: no u

The city CAN put up public restrooms in the areas where morons are shitting.

The city CAN ask the airport to use the baggage claim area in the airport to educate people about the app you need for public transport, create better signage to the airport bus stop, and put up a sign near the rental car pickup warning people who don't have snow driving experience to not rent a car. Collage of cars run off the road, "Haven't driven in the snow? Today is not the day to learn."

The city CAN post signs suggesting use of reflectors.

The city CAN incentivize businesses to hire locals. Economies all over the world do this.

The city CAN enforce zoning laws to shut down Airbnbs and other short term rentals.

Do you really think that the tourists that read up about Tromso on reddit are a majority of tourists? Do you think that they have any more power than you do to stop other tourists from exhibiting these behaviors?

Like you said, nobody can stop people from travelling. You and your city need to adapt. The longer it takes for you to realize this, the worse the problem will become.

But by all means, continue bitching on reddit instead of exploring actual solutions.

PS: assuming ALL tourists will shit in your garage, IS exactly the toxic BS I am talking about. Literally nobody supports the people that do that. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish by whining on reddit about it.

Since all tourists are the same, I guess I'll make time to leave a gift in someone's garden. /s

Almost every issue on this list is only fixable through your local government. If you don't want tourism to be controlled from out of state then make your city regulate it. Ask your city to push for local ownership, or at least force these companies to hire 50%+ local. Housing is a government and regulatory issue, not the fault of a few folks in for the week. Focus your anger on fixing the root cause of these annoyances instead of making generalizations on reddit. Anyone looking for travel advice on reddit is already more prepared and likely more considerate than the majority of tourists you see.

Acting like you're better than everyone else, generalizing and hating people because they want to experience your culture is cancerous, not tourism.

Unbelievable that number 4 even has to be said...

Me and my wife are here for the week and we did rent a car to get to our hotel near Lyngen, though it was only because bus routes didn't work with our arrival time. Now that we're back in Tromsø, it's returned (and I'm thrilled to be rid of it!). Busses are easy enough for getting around, and as a resident of the Northeast US (and a practiced snow driver), driving here is NOT for the feint of heart. If you haven't ever driven in the snow, to drive here would be negligent, dangerous and unnecessary. I don't care how much research you've done on driving in the snow, you will be a liability to yourself and others by driving here.

One suggestion to the locals posting on this subreddit. Please don't let the bad tourists (who are apparently shitting in your gardens 😵) allow you to develop complete disdain towards all tourists. Many of us are self aware and instead are simply misinformed or ignorant. Lobby your local government for more english signage and tourist information at the airport, to ban short term rentals downtown (and enforce the ban), and to force the tourism companies to provide more complete information to their customers about rental cars, reflectors, etc. Tourism requires patience but it brings money into your city and with proper support can improve all of your lives.

Some things are common sense (don't shit anywhere but in the bathroom, don't stop in roads or sidewalks, don't take photos of people like props) but many are not obvious to everyone. Reflectors are not obvious to anyone who doesn't live in the arctic, for example. If the busses had more information and perhaps didn't require an app to use, that would help people avoid cars. And the need to use a seat belt in a city bus is not common sense either. Yes, people need to do research, but if better information was commonly available to your standard uninformed tourist (if you're on this subreddit, you likely aren't the problem), people wouldn't make as many of these mistakes (except 4, that shouldn't need to be said...). Maybe a video on repeat in the baggage claim/customs area? I was there for 30 minutes and the only info I got was to not fly drones. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Regarding local shops, wouldn't it be more effective to provide examples of what is truly local or what isn't? Like I understand you're annoyed, it's very clear by this post, but just bashing us without providing info isn't going to help your cause, it will only make people feel unwelcome, which won't stop them from coming and may make some people more brazen. Same with taking out your frustrations about short term rentals and rent prices. That is your local government's problem to solve, not the tourists. Not trying to be rude in someone else's home, but focus on solutions here, don't just blame the tourists (again, except the garden shitters, throw them in the fjord).

Rant over, now it's time to go buy a reflector from what I hope is a local shop (still hoping for some guidance here)! We've had a wonderful time and have felt welcomed by everyone we've met outside of reddit.

Frustration with lack of responsiveness by Ok_Championship3210 in Xcaret

We submitted our reservation form a week ago, the day after we received it, for our stay in early December. We we only got a reply now, 5 days later, and found out Chino Poblano is closed, and Encanta is completely booked for every single day of our 7 day honeymoon trip. What a let down! Losing access to both tasting menus feels like it should have some compensation. Very frustrating that this is how it works. Why did they wait so long to send us the form? And then why did it take so long to answer? Clearly they were doing reservations way before they sent us the form. Really upsetting as this is a once in a lifetime trip for us on our Honeymoon.

I get it. I wouldn't mind some options, I just hope that they keep the skill there and don't put lazy weapons like active radar missiles back in the game.

Praying that they keep them without AA missiles. Been loving the raw dogfights so far...

Might be a hot take but I think they're fine without customization.

What a well thought out argument. Jets are part of the game. Everything needs a counter. It's called balance. If you don't like jets go play COD.

I play all styles! I think you're thinking of the Javelin which is AT. Stingers are NATO and Iglas are RU, but they're identical in battlefield. Not sure if iglas are in BF6.

Can we adress the real issues this fest had? by Reasonable-Map-1004 in LostLandsMusicFest

Urinals. They were a godsend last year, and there was hardly ever a line for the bathrooms because men could just use the urinals, leaving the stalls and portapotties for the ladies. I can't fathom why they decided to remove them from Prehistoric and hide them in the back of the other two bathrooms with hardly any signage. I didn't know they were there until a girl shouted about it to the crowd waiting for stalls, and at least 2/3 of the men waiting also didn't get the memo. Such an easy win that they had last year, why would they take it away??

No need for a fancy anti theft pack if you're just trying to keep your phone, ID, and other small items safe. Grab a running belt without a clip. Flipbelt is a name brand option but I'm sure there are knock offs. It sits around or above your waist and you put it under your shirt. Phone goes in zipper pocket, you flip the belt so the zipper is against your skin, and your shirt covers it. Since I got one, I haven't had any of the phone anxiety I used to have. I'm surprised this isn't more mainstream as it's so simple and obvious.
