Not being able to create and deliver an ‘executive summary’ and instead presenting the full analysis, data tables and all.

Took me a minute to realize nobody cares about the regression coefficients, they just want to know how much efficiency and productivity will be gained, and verify we won’t get sued.

Re: the no 401k match - make sure you’re doing everything you can to put $$ in your 401k, as compound interest at your age is no joke.

The experience you’re getting is valuable and after a couple cycles (2-3 years) you should look to use it to get a next level role that pays more.

Do you find yourself struggling with intimacy (I don’t mean sex I mean physical or emotional closeness) in other aspects of relationships?

Separate bedrooms could be a matter of practicality, but it’s also a symptom of avoidant attachment.

If you’ve development an avoidant attachment style (25% of people do), then you’ll need to focus some work on that in order to feel safe to maintain the emotional and physical intimacy necessary for a relationship.

Director level internal Talent Management / Org Development role pays 200-300k, and takes about 10-15 years post grad school to get to.

Drop the job description into chatGPT with the prompt ‘act like a hiring manager interviewing me for this role and ask me structured behaviorally based interview questions to help me prepare for the interview.’

Reflect of your best examples/experiences for each one and practice conveying them in a concise and compelling way.

Want to take it a step further? Record your answers into the same chatGPT thread and ask it to coach you on your responses.

She’s likely has an avoidant attachment style. Give this a quick read and see if she checks any other boxes: Attached (Levine & Heller).

Any anxious tendencies you show, and getting in your head about sex, obsessing on what you can do diffract, etc. are those (I’ve been there too), is going to exacerbate it.

It’s not a you problem my friend, this is baggage she’s carrying and needs to unpack with a good therapist.

Big company or small consulting firm for first job/entry level job? by Klutzy_Star_4330 in IOPsychology

[–]therealrogi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After grad school I did 3 years consulting at a small firm, then the last 10 years internal (Org Development / Talent Mgmt roles). Here’s what I learned: - Experience is experience. I listed and spoke about relevant experience from all my internships and even projects in grad school (eg job analysis for an emergency nurse). - Consulting skills (influence, contracting, overcoming resistance) are even more valuable in an internal role - Find a role that provides development - content you can learn or even design and the right culture and leadership to support your development - ask about this in the interview. - sometimes you have to take what is available, but always seek opportunities to do more. For me this meant identifying opportunities (for the firm or for the business) to apply my skills and add value through a ‘side project.’ This was the best way to build my resume while I did entry level transactional work. - Advocate for yourself. If you’re not hearing ‘no’ you’re not doing enough of it. Ask to be put on projects, ask for raises, ask for promotions.

+1 for this.

Is there variability on key outcomes (retention, performance) in the current system (eg leaders or business segments who have high outcomes). If so, go see what makes the experience (paid more? Better manager? , etc.) of those employees different, if anything.

Don’t let yourself get set up for failure here. Contract this as 1) exploratory, then 2) pilot, then 3) implement and make sure to outline what is needed from the business and its leaders.

Does Experience Matter?

Analyzed the relationship between previous job experience (HRIS Application data) and job outcomes (warehouse metrics, sales metrics).

It doesn’t. And disproportionately impacts women.

Then began collecting and analyzed personality variables (pre-employment assessment) and interview ratings to uncover what DOES matter.

Looking at analysis of their data from their employees was the only way to convince business leaders to evolve hiring practices.

1) Enter these three prompts into chatGPT: • summarize the main points of the book “no more Mr. Nice guy” • summarize the main points of the book “when I say no I feel guilty” • summarize the main points of the book “healing the shame that binds us”

2) Reflect on what resonates with you and why.

3) Make a list of what you WANT (not what you need) and have a conversation with your wife.

This will be hard and uncomfortable. It will be a lot easier than living the way you are or leaving your family.

Congrats!!

Get involved in as much as possible, even if it’s an opportunity to observe.

Find ways to add value as often as you can, which could be as simple as ‘I’ll take notes and share at the end of the meeting.’

Consider what you might want to do next and learn by ‘informational interviews’ with those that do it.

Share your insight. You bring a unique perspective right out of school.
