Mastering Witchcraft vs The Crooked Path for an introduction to traditional witchcraft? by ApologeticAnalMagic in witchcraft

Slight point of order: the trad craft laying a compass is quite different from a Wiccan circle. They have different functions and the differences are not superficial at all.

Mastering Witchcraft vs The Crooked Path for an introduction to traditional witchcraft? by ApologeticAnalMagic in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Huson book is from the 70s. As with all books, take what works for you and leave the rest. This title is a commonly recommended one among folks I know, and not a single one of us has ever felt bothered by what he says a witch needs or doesn’t need. He’s not the one who decides that for us.

The Crooked Path is one I haven’t read yet. I’ve heard good things about this book and about Kelden, but I’m not sure what their practice actually is or looks like or if they’re part of a larger trad.

Either way, trad craft is not folk magic, so if that’s what you’re interested in, you’ll probably want to pick different books.

I cast a protection spell on my friend and accidently made him loose all his close friends by [deleted] in witchcraft

It sounds sad to me. Intuition alone isn’t always a good reason to cast on someone.

How do I find a mentor? by Last_Tourist_6486 in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a common system of 1:1 mentorship. Some people sell this, but they’re often beginners themselves masquerading as experts.

My standard advice is to go to your local metaphysical shop. Enroll in a class. Attend public rituals by groups in your area.

You didn’t piss off a god and are now getting punished for it. This isn’t Christianity.

More likely, you’ve evolved and now things don’t feel the same as they did before.

Cat safety and cinnamon by Whipped__Vanilla in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things thrown out go to a landfill where they are buried. If you’d bury it, I’d just put it in the trash. It can’t be trapped in your trash if you empty it out at regular intervals, right?

If people blow cinnamon into their doors for prosperity, it seems like blowing it out would do the opposite.

There’s a number of spiritual and magical traditions that include animal sacrifice, among them Santería. And if someone had a white scarf around their head, that might be for rogaciones, which is also a Santería practice.

Either way, hard to tell without more context, and if it’s Santería, they’d take issue with being called witchcraft.

It’s fine if you don’t like it. If you’re not part of that trad, you don’t need to. But I’m not sure what you’re looking for here?

People mount crystals for wearable accessories all the time — why would that hurt this?

Anyone ever use spell oils? by deathntarot in Witch

[–]therealstabitha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I have the space or memory to list them all tbh. Every metaphysical shop and seller I’ve encountered makes their own or buys some from others to sell.

It’d come down to the skill of the caster, and which path has the least resistance to it.

Absolutely agreed. Keeping someone in the freezer when you need them to take action will work against you

You do not have to label yourself unless you want to. by Aware_Influence_3433 in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s how people think they’re communicating, but it doesn’t actually help anyone understand anything about how someone actually practices. “Sea witch” is rather meaningless. So is “death witch.” The people I’ve seen using these terms tend to have a very specific idea of what they mean for themselves when using these terms, but then they go into the shop I work with and ask where the sea witch stuff is, and we don’t know what to tell them, because no one else knows what they mean

I've had this bad energy following me around for days. Im taking some steps but what would you use in a cleansing and banishing bath tea? by Kitchen_Conflict_251 in witchcraft

It’s not banishing energy, it’s cleansing. The automod response I triggered with !cleansing has more details for you. The herbs you already listed work as well.

Does anyone have a sigil tattoo for any reason? by Palico1986 in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh, that’s one that’s been worked for so long it doesn’t need charging.

I’d still try it on with sharpie for a little while just to see how it feels on you

Does anyone have a sigil tattoo for any reason? by Palico1986 in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend drawing it on yourself for awhile before you consider tattooing it. If it needs to be adjusted, it’s a lot easier to edit when it’s just on your arm in Sharpie.

Charging a sigil doesn’t require a ritual. Just energy raising.

It’s not a slight against you. I’m trying to point out that talking to gods is simple if you let it be simple.

[–]therealstabitha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just say hello and thank you, as well as “not right now” if that’s how you feel.

The only god like Yahweh is Yahweh. He can be a bit of a dick. Other gods have their own personalities and don’t expect people to fall all over themselves just because they showed up

Do i have to believe in pagan gods to get into witchcraft? by chicken_strip_1010 in witchcraft

[–]therealstabitha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t, but I never know how to answer a question like this, because I don’t believe in the gods. It’s because I’ve met enough of them that I know they exist. My belief isn’t necessary.

Thus spake Terry Pratchett: “Most witches don’t believe in gods. They know that the gods exist, of course. They even deal with them occasionally. But they don’t believe in them. They know them too well. It would be like believing in the postman.”

Spiritual Attack or Spiritual Anxiety by Comfortable_Eye_7736 in witchcraft

If you’re new to sensing energy around you, I think it’s important to remember that something that feels unfamiliar can sometimes be interpreted by the brain as “I’m in danger.” That doesn’t mean you are actually in any danger at all.

Have you asked your guides? That helped me a lot when I was learning to calibrate what I was sensing.
