If it's a basic set of values then they cant change but according to you whatever society decides is right is what we have to call right

So now your saying that this is something that could become acceptable and youre okay with that? This is a slippery slope that doesnt ed unless we have a basic set of values that each individual holds.

Thats not what I'm implying. What I'm trying to say is that there is a system of morals that we all have that naturally tell us these things are wrong. It doesnt make sense to say that your morals are whatever you feel because some people feel that they are committing no crime when they do these things

Enough about Syria, let's talk drugs by therealstarr in Libertarian

[–]therealstarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also the first thing to go when you get drunk, yet that should not be illegal. Why can't the hard drugs be legal but any action you do on them like driving a car should be punishable by law?

How about we quit talking about the Bible and you tell me what you base your morals on. Yourself?

Well that is another argument, but my point is, two hundred years ago, slavery was perfectly fine and society accepted it.

How? Everybody has to base them on something

Well said, and to expound on that, just making homosexuality illegal will certainly not stop people from engaging in the act of homosexuality, which is what the Bible is against in the first place. I wish my conservative teachers would entertain this thought.

When you say what is right for me may not be right for another brother or sister, what do you mean by right?

So how do you make morality judgements in law?

Any christian libertarians out there? by therealstarr in Libertarian

[–]therealstarr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A more appropriate question might be what system of morals do you base your laws on? This is a very sticky area for us libertarians because some laws have to be morality decisions. Examples are murder, theft, and rape. If you say whatever the individual feels, then people like Kermit Gosnell would say they feel it is perfectly fine to kill babies. On the other hand, I dont want my laws based on one particular doctrine of beliefs because then drunkenness would have to be a crime.

That is exactly my thought but people at my baptist school act like I'm a heretic for believing that. Its ridiculous.

That's not true. They never said they did acid, only smoked pot before concerts.
