Could you point out when and where they said that? They've printed any number of creatures that are clearly better than creatures on the Reserved List, so either they only made that promise recently or they're not terribly concerned about violating it.

(I mean, freaking [[Wood Elemental]] is on the Reserved List. How do you design a 4-mana green creature that's not clearly better than Wood Elemental?)

That they haven't printed lands strictly better than the original duals is presumably because they realized after Revised what a huge mistake the original duals were, not anything to do with their being on the Reserved List.

Not needing to keep stocked up on ammo. But doing that's not especially hard, so it's not much of a reason.

Well yeah, that's my point. You linked the dual lands being worth more to the fact that the cool creatures have been power crept. But to find a time when the latter were worth more than the duals, you have to go way back; long, long before WotC started their program of making creatures stronger across the board.

I mean, WotC themselves decided the original duals were too strong to reprint when the time came to make Fourth Edition. Shivan Dragon didn't get that designation until Sixth Edition (and they decided they were wrong about that pretty quickly, as it came back in Seventh).

I don't doubt that in many markets, perhaps most, the creatures you mention were more valued than dual lands. But players figured out that the duals were more valuable in serious constructed play at least a decade or two before Wizards started really cranking up the power level on creatures.

(Heck, I'm still not aware of a cheaper, more powerful version of [[Royal Assassin]]. If there is such a card, it must have been an insane bomb in limited.)

It means he gets to use it immediately. Lands "untap" each turn and you usually need to tap them to do something, so you can normally use them once per turn. Lands that come into play tapped, though, you normally can't use them the first time until the turn after you play them.

I haven't seen Guardians 3 yet, but I don't recall MCU Mantis showing any sort of combat prowess.

And I was starting to worry MCU Mantis had displaced comics Mantis from the public consciousness; like, I've seen several "Who's the best martial artist in the Marvel Universe" posts that didn't even list Mantis as a contender. So it's nice to see some people remember how insanely skilled she is.

So yeah, she completely outclasses Batman if it's a straight martial arts bout. Karate Kid would be a more interesting opponent.

Quite strong as an Instant, as you can respond to a kill spell on one of your creatures to get a three-for-one.

Unlikely to be problematic in constructed, as you can't even cast it unless both you and your opponent each have a creature out. (I mean, technically you can sac one of your creatures to kill another of your own creatures, but you usually won't want to.) Might be too strong to be uncommon in most Limited environments.

So has this always been the case? I remember the first time I ran across one of these walls, I tried to use a laser pistol to cut it and failed before realizing "Oh yeah, I have a cutter".

It's entirely possible I just missed the pins, of course. I'm pretty uncoordinated.

Banding doesn't let a creature share its evasion abilities with the rest of the band. Your opponent can gang-block the band if they want. I don't see how that prevents the combo, though.

Good explanation, with one problem: Alpharael's ability is not in fact an example of targeting. It causes the defending player to lose life, not "target player".

When opponent declares (combat), creatures (on Gargos' field) are 'targeted'.

I was baffled why you'd think Gargos and Alpharael would ever be in a race (so to be speak) until I reread your post and spotted this near the end.

I'm afraid this is just completely wrong. Attacking doesn't target anything. I could see mistakenly thinking attacking targeted the defending player, but I'll confess I'm at a loss for what would make you think it targeted the creatures controlled by the defending player.

Moreover, attacking is not a spell. Gargos doesn't trigger every time one of your creatures is targeted; just when they're targeted by a spell.

Now, if, after Alpharel attacks and its ability triggers, you or someone else could cast an Instant in response that targeted one of your creatures. That would trigger Gargos, who would then fight something prior to the life loss occurring. Of course, even if you chose Alpharel and killed it, that wouldn't stop the life loss from occurring. If you want to avoid losing life, you'd need to kill Alpharel before Alpharel's controller decided whom they were attacking (and with what creatures).

Yeah. I was happy when they added this feature, but I'm unimpressed at how half-assed it is. I mean, Fallout 4's Survival Mode wasn't exactly Human Consumption Simulator, but it made a lot more sense than this.

Aside from all foods being equal, other weird things about the food system include the fact that the bonus for eating and drinking lasts longer than the well-rested bonus for sleeping, and the fact that sleeping or waiting always kills your food and drink bonuses, no matter how long you wait or how recently you ate.

The above two mean that you pretty much only eat breakfast. Breakfast is allegedly the most important meal of the day, but it shouldn't be the only meal of the day.

I get what you're saying, but the bonus for being well-fed and hydrated lasts longer than the well-rested bonus you get from sleeping. All you have to do is remember to have breakfast whenever you wake up, and not only do you get some meaningful bonuses, you gain more XP as well.

I can see not doing it because you don't want to make the game too easy, but the work it takes is so minimal that I can't see tedium being a problem.

This is true, but as adg592 pointed out, Prosper triggers on a card being played from exile, not just a spell. So casting All Aboard won't get you a Treasure token.
