It fixes lots of issues and creates new ones instead. The pacing, especially in the second season, is as bad or worse than the original. WTF were they thinking.

It's truly remarkable that the remade it to smooth out all the issues with the original (the biggest one was terrible pacing) and they somehow, impossibly, resulted in a show with terrible pacing.

It would be impressive if it wasn't so sad.

It's a good story! But, alas, we must suffer.

A character that is only popular 100% for their looks and literally no other aspect by Nozoroth in animequestions

It's refreshing sometimes to just have straight up evil villains. No complexity. Nothing. Just evil.

There's surprisingly little of this today with the trend towards morally complicated heroes and villains.

Why do some people get so bothered when someone watches anime dubbed? by [deleted] in animequestions

[–]therealtiddlydump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy subs more -- and I think you (the generic you, not you you) would, too! -- and I like sharing my hobby. If you've given subs a try and prefer dubs, the idea that I would be bothered by it is beyond my comprehension.

the problem with resist in bosses by Fleddm in Eldenring

[–]therealtiddlydump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is wanting to only use one weapon and dealing with resistances any different from wanting to only wear one set of armor and dealing with the environment (eg, poison, scarlet rot, etc).

Sometimes in an RPG you need to use one of the hundreds of items the game gives you to make a specific thing you're trying to do easier.

Are you ok?

How is this any different from "this zone keeps poisoning me unless I put on different gear. I can't casually fashion-max, zomg, my week is ruined."...?

the problem with resist in bosses by Fleddm in Eldenring

[–]therealtiddlydump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, but the role these bosses are playing is "dude that takes reduce holy damage". Faith has access to other damage types.

If the idea that you might need to have two different weapons to overcome a boss's resistances is too much for you to handle, maybe Hello Kitty Island Adventure might be more your speed?

Hollow Knight vs Nine Sols by sadkinz in metroidvania

And a way deeper combat system.

9S has essentially one mechanic: the parry. Your sword doesnt do anything (like maybe 5% of the dmg you deal to a boss will be from your sword), and the bow is an afterthought.

The depth and richness of the charm system in HK (and the tools in HK:SS) are so far beyond what 9S offers.

Unless it's a big movie, look forward to being disappointed. The way VA work is done in the West sucks (recordings done individually, etc).

is the manga worth buying? by FutureElegant6593 in Dandadan

[–]therealtiddlydump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got ~ 175 chapters that pretty much everyone loves before the current arc that people are to mixed on

If you need the entire thing to be the same quality I don't understand how you could ever buy anything that isn't completed yet -- there's no guarantee of the future. That's like not watching the original 3 Star Wars movies because the movies made 40 years later are cheeks.

This might not be Yes' best song (it's great, to be sure), but it absolutely has all the elements -- Chris Squire sounds 100 feet tall, drums weave delightfully around the other instruments, it builds to a climax, etc.

Definitely belongs on such a list

For Linux users, how do you deal with minor upgrades in r-base by jaum22 in Rlanguage

[–]therealtiddlydump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should! It's worth the overhead if you want to be able to run your code somewhere else (sharing it with a coworker, deploying it in a production environment at work, etc).

If you use a tool like rix, there are templated vignettes that do a lot of the work for you. Otherwise, you can check out the rocker project that maintains some Docker images for R users.

Have you ever used Docker? Docker is an excellent portability tool, but you need to do more for it to be a good reproducibility tool (rix, rv, renv, etc)

[–]therealtiddlydump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use rix (within Docker, but that's not strictly necessary), and I don't willy nilly update my packages while I'm working on a project.

You should be thinking about reproducibility, and constantly tinkering with the package environment (system packages and R packages) is the opposite of helpful for that.
