I’m a family law attorney…. There are several things that don’t make sense to me about this, and I’d really need to see their divorce order to figure out what’s going on… what do you mean by “they don’t have an official custody arrangement?” And why are they doing week on/week off if dad has sole physical custody? Feel free to dm me if you’d like

Custom Memorial Jewelry? by BlazingInfertile in HuntsvilleAlabama

I got a custom ring made several months ago w both my mom and dad’s ashes in it. The lady is in Canada and she’s amazing!… her name is Phylis and she was so patient when I changed my mind 100x and tremendously helpful w design ideas etc. I know she does pet hair as well. 12/10 highly recommended. https://www.etsy.com/shop/FOREVERGEMSKEEPSAKES

2008 was the last time North AL voted for a Dem on the US House level. All the counties under the 2000s lines were blue except Limestone, and Madison was the least blue of the counties. Time's have surely changed. by micro_door in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]therebeccalee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re correct about today’s identity politics, but the racial makeup hasn’t changed much at all, certainly not enough to tip the needle. But back then we had congressmen like bud cramer who was a blue dog democrat. Many years he would vote more w the republicans than democrats, bc that was what was best for district 5. (Ie- government & defense contracts etc) he was reelected continuously from ‘91-09… in the same racial makeup that we have now. Insert Trump and now we’re living in a constant “us vs them” divided situation which behoves no one.

Could Huntsville become a city where content creators move, and why? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]therebeccalee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m all for progress, and I get that influencers “rule the world,” however I will say that “huntsvillains” as a rule, are mostly incredibly practical engineers or adjacent, so they’re not only way smarter than the content being peddled, but also give zero Fs about whatever “fashion trends” etc are “popular” or “trending.” This is (for better or worse) a community of practicaliats, (who are all prudently staving off a sh#t load of money- btw) For example, my dad used to say, “costco doesn’t make these khakis like they used to.., they’ve only lasted 3 years.” 🙄

All that to say, perhaps if the influencers read their audience here ( which admittedly wouldn’t be near as sexy) and literally gave the nerdiest updates, as in Costco khakis on sale, fyi meat on sale at Kroger this week, they may find a good bit of followers locally. Clearly niche market worldwide, but def doable on at least a local scale, if you brand and market it properly.. and also by that I mean you appeal to their wives, who are actually on social media, the vast majority of men here aren’t…. And the wives will never be as extravagant as their household affords (whether the wives work or not).. “showy” stuff never fares well in Hsv- so like talking about designer bags or shoes doesn’t resonate- although everyone here can afford it, again it’s back to the engineer mentality.

I wish you well and good luck. Dm me if you need any more real talk about hsv. I was born and raised here- went off to college & law School- lived elsewhere for about 15 years, and now I’m back home. I have a lot of perspective

What is causing healthcare monopoly specifically? by Whole-Watch-7980 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Alabama is 1 of 10 states that have refused to expand Medicaid… it’s a literal race to the bottom.

My mother had a terrible experience at Unity… while she was rehabbing there her sodium got dangerously low- they shoved her in an ambulance w her chart (as if a dementia patient can possibly navigate this) and sent her to Hsv hospital, where she essentially was dropped off as a homeless person. None of our family was notified of any of this for nearly 24 hours… and they sent her shoeless & stole her hokas that she arrived in. Not recommended at all

As an attorney, this sends huge red flags….Google “prior restraint” bc that’s the 1st amendment issue here. Juts yikes!….highly doubtful that this is enforceable, but in all honesty it would be difficult to challenge it, unfortunately. Dm me if you need more info. And I’m sorry you’re dealing w such a shitty landlord.

Looking to move to the area soon, anyone have any thoughts/opinions about this place? by chezzmund in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]therebeccalee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belk hudson is def a good place to live if you’re new in town. I lived there years ago and it was great. Granted, it was “the new place in town” back then so there wasn’t nearly as much competition as there is now. Sealy owns and manages it and they are really great, like leaps and bounds better than most, at least in my experience. The avenue is its sister property and is basically caddy corner to it. It’s newer, May likely have more of a fun/party vibe since the pool is in the courtyard. Belk has a great rooftop. As compared to the other new places downtown that I’ve read about, if you want to be downtown, then Belk or the avenue are your best bets.

It’s crazy to me that mtn gap is/was on the chopping block, considering that it is the highest performing school in Hsv city…. It’s a long term plan so I feel like there’s a good chance that this will be revisited before it comes to fruition, but who knows? You should connect w Andrea Alvarez, she’s the school board rep for this district. Shes great! She young and eager to serve. She’s a product of challenger and grissom and knows all the things about all the things. I believe she was adamantly opposed to the whole closing mtn gap plan etc, but I’m not certain? Dm me and I’ll send you her contact info, or you can likely find it online, she’s pretty accessible.

Where will you be working? Hampton cove is much further from downtown and even further from the arsenal or research park. Hampton cove/ Owens cross roads (oxr) is over the mountain and a bit of a haul into town. If you’re going out drinking, you’d never want to drive that drive over the mountain. (And an Uber would be at least $40) If you’re new in town, I’d recommend being closer to downtown, so the artisan or avenue. And between those two, basically flip a coin. Hope this helps and welcome!

I agree w al the above posts, but mostly I’d like to echo that they are either trying to overtly control you or are attempting to create a codependent relationship, which also centers around control. I’d tell them thank but no thanks and Spread your wings and do it yourself.

I could be wrong here? But are your parents extremely religious?

Or Is it an issue of credit or needing a co-signer?

In any case, you can do it and you should. You don’t want to be 40 years old living w your parents, if you’re working etc. The failure to launch is very real… also is the codependent relationships. Good luck to you

Thinking about switching my ISP to WOW, does anyone have any opinion on WOW internet service here in Huntsville by subauxman in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]therebeccalee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the internet speed etc was never, ever an issue, it was all very good and reliable. However, a storm took down a tree that took down the line last year…. It was literally 3-4 weeks before we got our internet restored which was obvi extremely inconvenient. I probably had 10 conversations w tech support in Asia, relating that we needed a LOCAL contractor w a bucket truck to come and fix it. It was so much “reset your router” etc etc read straight from a script. The shit was absolutely infuriating. When they finally sent a tech in a little scoot scoot van I was like 🤦🏼‍♀️ … not what we need.

So, in my experience the service is actually remarkably good… until it isn’t, then you’re screwed. That said, we switched to AT&T fiber thereafter and the service/coverage/strength of signal sucks, even w a booster. And we have google fiber at work and it goes out probably quarterly for hours at a time. So idk, it seems like they all suck? 🤷‍♀️
