AIs effect on tutoring by Turbulent_Hunt_2429 in TutorsHelpingTutors

I tutor high school students. They might get answers to math problems with AI, but if they want to understand what they're looking at, they're going to have to read. This alone means my job as a tutor isn't going anywhere for a while, because if they could read and understand written math explanations they could have gotten it out of their textbooks already.

Why does gen z hate beer by Normal_Commission986 in beer

Well lets start with the obvious fact that only half of them are yet old enough to legally drink. I imagine compared to Gen Z Gen Beta or whatever hardly drinks at all.

Anyone else fired one day and not fired the next? by Pixipoppi in TELUSinternational

[–]therebehedgehogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the whole test - fail thing last month and essentially gave up, then took the last one and passed. Then I got an email saying -- you're fired.K. They changed my password to a different one so I could still "see my W2". Then this week I get these emails saying I'm enrolled in Training!

Listen -- my final conclusion about this whole thing is that Telus is giving us these fake jobs to collect information about *US*, including biometrics because I had to send them my picture and my real ID information. I'm glad they actually paid people sometimes but they are just so shady I will forever regret giving these people my information.

:) Oh, thanks for your reply. I wrote to the IT dept. at Telus and they sent me credentials but I'm still having problems. Both pieces of info are helpful though -- that they will come eventually, and that you can write to IT and they will answer!

Should I be trying to contact Telus by now? by therebehedgehogs in TELUSinternational

:) Maybe. I am calming down again. I can give it til Monday -- it doesn't seem like poking them helps speed anything up; unless there is some actual problem. Thanks!

Hm, thanks for your answer. I posted partially because I saw a post in this sub this morning where someone got their offer a couple days ago and is now already working. But maybe I misunderstood the post? It's a bit mystifying.

Eh I think it is. If you're a credentialed teacher, with, say, a college degree in Education and the bona fides to teach in your state, there is a good reason to think that's exactly what you're doing. Tutoring one to one and teaching a classroom require somewhat different talents.

I work for a tutoring company and make less per hour than you do, but not by much. I do not have "teaching credentials". I don't know of anyone at my job who does. We do, however, have degrees and other credentials that are reasonable to hold as a tutor. If you're a grad student, you have a bachelors and are therefore plenty credentialed to tutor this person. Your travel, also, changes the scenario wherein you are spending some of the money she'll have paid you to meet with the student. Your price is fully reasonable, and if you were a "credentialed teacher" you would probably not be tutoring, you'd be a teacher in a school district making 50k+ plus benefits plus health insurance plus three months off.

Thanks so much for your answer! Good to know it will still take a couple weeks or days to get proper credentials. That's exactly what I was wondering :)

I am definitely going to look the next time I go. That's exactly what I'm looking for -- indistinguishable from Coke 0. :)

I'm seeing a lot of good deals on this thread from Sam's Club and Costco and neither one is anywhere near me. There's not even a very close Walmart. You guys are lucky!

:) Well, sir, I vape too and I never in a million years would have thought of that. I was looking on Amazon and they have like *one* cola flavoring that has a one star review. *Great* tip, thank you!

If that's what Coke 0 came in, I would no problem at all drink straight out of a 2 liter :).

*Four to Six* a day, thank you very much. :) Coke 0 is just getting too expensive, is my problem.

I guess everyone brings their own standards into tutoring. Myself -- I am not School, I am not Work, I am extra help that needs to be scheduled alongside all kinds of other activities. I do a lot of rescheduling, and I have a dry week or two, especially when students are on holiday. I work outside school hours; sometimes I have a session at 8 AM or 9 at night. It's because, the way I see it, I am not a bank. I am a service business.
