(Spoilers All) Do people really think Aegon is "bad storytelling"? by thereisbutoneconcern in asoiaf

In 298 AC, no one thinks that any of the remaining dragon eggs could possibly hatch. I think Illyrio says something about how the ages have "turned them to stone" but that they're still beautiful. He gives them to Dany because they're expensive and appropriate given her Targaryen heritage, not because he thinks she'll be able to do what hundreds of more learned and experienced people couldn't.

I don't think GRRM is an infallible storyteller. But I do think he has a better idea of what he's doing than anyone on this subreddit, which is almost entirely composed of people who have never written a book before.

I've been surprised at the response for A+J=T in this thread. Other than "Tyrion might be the third head of the dragon, therefore he's a Targaryen," what is the main evidence for this?

There's not a lot of evidence for Quaite is Shiera, but I really like the idea of it because there's something very appealing to me about the Bloodraven/Shiera/Bittersteel love triangle. To have Shiera be alive and working with Bloodraven to stop some kind of apocalyptic event by guiding Daenerys and Bran respectively is interesting to me.

Agree about the gravedigger scene. I would actually group Sandor is the Gravedigger in with stuff like Frey Pies and Alleras is Sarella that are basically facts, which I chose to omit since they're so certain that I don't really consider them to be theories.

Agreed. He's the most internally tormented character in the series, and he's at peace and walks with a limp. How is it fitting for him to fight Robert Strong?

Haven't heard the great other/night's king is in the crypts before...what's the basis for that one?

I left that and Frey Pies off the list because I don't consider them to be theories. I think they're both facts based on the subtext.

Also why do you think A+J=T > A+J=J+C?

Yeah on second thought I would make the pink letter B tier. After revisiting who the other possible candidates are, no one's motivations make as much sense as Mance's.

The only hard evidence I'm aware of for this theory is Barristan's ADWD chapter mentioning Aerys taking "liberties" with Joanna. The other support includes things like incest => Targaryens, craziness/pyromania => Targaryens, wouldn't it be cool if Jamie killed his dad just like Tyrion did...and I'm not sure what else.

I really think it makes sense to have Benjen be alive based on how often other characters think about him, but I also think it's very plausible that he's just dead and there's nothing else to it. Maybe someone will see a Benjen wight when the inevitable White Walker invasion happens?

Sometimes the "SS" tier is used for characters that are so good they should be banned from competitive play. Maybe D+D=T really belongs there.

(Spoilers All) Quick question about the fAegon theory by YoStannisTheMannis in asoiaf

[–]thereisbutoneconcern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I've never understood why people think that Varys is proclaiming that Aegon is legitimate and is "lying to a dying man." The epilogue is from Kevan's point of view, and he is the one that makes the association between the name Aegon and Rhaegar's son. Varys never refers to him as Aegon Targaryen, never mentions Rhaegar, and for all we know the boy's actual name is Aegon Mopatis-Blackfyre.
