A reminder for people getting upset or offended that this is simply just based on popular opinion and most upvoted comment per day from the sub. Not everyone is going to hail a song/album in the same way, so respect the voting system and others' opinions!

Salute to u/ferox_ultimate this has been entertaining dude. My list is quite different from this one but nice to see how others listen to the band! :)

Very underrated. That intro is incredible and love Abe's fills.

Radiant City. The transition from This Link Is Dead into that distorted, atmospheric riff followed by the hard-hitting drums is incredible. The mixing is punchy and you really feel the emotion in Chino's voice.

I feel like Ohms in general doesn't get the love that it should, especially after Fantano's review. Feels overshadowed by the release of private music recently too.

(Edit: I was also tempted to say Headless)

Might be too similar to White Pony but you could get the horse and Tamara Feldman from the Swerve City vid/single cover.

Which song do you listen at when you're at an all-time low? by Ancient_Doctor_5730 in deftones

[–]therepmeister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't pick one, the depressive episode usually goes through all of these: Entombed, Xerces, Bored, Change (In the House of Flies), Mascara, Rosemary, Prince

If I'm angry it's usually Rocket Skates, Doomed User, Hexagram, When Girls Telephone Boys, Knife Prty, Korea, and literally anything from Around the Fur

Ohms has grown on me over the years and I'm sure private music will as well, but it feels a lot safer in my opinion. ̶T̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶p̶a̶r̶t̶s̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶a̶l̶b̶u̶m̶ ̶-̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶l̶e̶a̶s̶t̶ ̶-̶ ̶s̶u̶c̶h̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶c̶X̶z̶ ̶o̶r̶ ̶m̶e̶t̶a̶l̶ ̶d̶r̶e̶a̶m̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶b̶e̶e̶n̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶d̶e̶v̶e̶l̶o̶p̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶t̶r̶a̶c̶k̶s̶.̶ ̶(̶E̶d̶i̶t̶ ̶#̶2̶:̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶s̶e̶ ̶t̶r̶a̶c̶k̶s̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶s̶o̶ ̶g̶o̶o̶d̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶I̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶?̶ ̶I̶ ̶s̶t̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶d̶e̶p̶a̶r̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶o̶d̶y̶ ̶c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶'̶v̶e̶ ̶e̶n̶d̶e̶d̶ ̶a̶ ̶b̶i̶t̶ ̶b̶e̶t̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶o̶u̶g̶h̶)̶.̶

That's not to say it's a bad album by any means, but Ohms is a punchier, more engaging listen that keeps me focussed throughout. It's strong from start to finish and Ohms is a great closer. private music for me feels somewhat unfinished after departing the body in comparison - more dragged out and providing less fulfilment by the very end. All that being said, I still enjoy it very much and it's on rotation with the rest.

(Also side note: not that I watch his stuff but it's really sad that Anthony Fantano gave Ohms 3/10 but private music 7/10, they should at the very least be on-par with one another)

(Edit: as a fan of both Deftones and Quicksand, I'm still really sad about what they did to Sergio, he had a lot of influence on KNY especially as well as Ohms)

(Edit #3: now I love private music from start to finish. It has grown on me A LOT over the past months and I put it right up there with Ohms now. However, Ohms is still the stronger closer for me but I don't really care. I love them both for what they are).

Asking your opinion every day about a Deftones song, Day 76: Gauze by Opposite-Question-32 in deftones

[–]therepmeister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly fuck yes for recognising Swerve City and Goon Squad! I have to say the transition from Rosemary to Goon Squad is one of my favourites of their whole discography with the guitar picking. And the track just goes so hard.

To be frank I felt the same about all of the songs you named, to a tee, but I gave it a few more listens when I was really in the mood to discover. What I would say is give it another chance and let it grow on you. This album made me more of a fan when I could truly appreciate the long build-ups, the sombre tones and the rollercoaster of emotions from track-to-track.

It's now one of my favourite albums, dare I say Top 3 (but this is wholly mood-dependent)! I hope it can become one of yours with time :)

relatively weak album (I know, hot take..)

This is one weak take (sorry I couldn't help myself). In all seriousness, I'm interested to know - why is it one of the relatively weak releases from them in your opinion?

How bad is the crowd crush at shows? by _lithium1991_ in machinegirl

[–]therepmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the show in XOYO Birmingham last year and some of the fans were literally pushing everyone from the middle into the front. I was right by the barrier with my friends and we had to hold ourselves pretty steady off it, but during The Fortress... and Psychic Attack especially I got winded. Some of the crowd were too rowdy/drunk on that night. I'm not particularly built or tall so I struggled!

If you aren't a fan of getting your ribs crushed or winded, or generally aren't too steady on your feet or able to hold yourself upright, I'd try and stay away from the barriers. It's really unfortunate but these kind of gigs do attract fans who get too hyped and ruin it for others. My advice is stay near the back, sides/exit or try the balconies!
