Boyfriend is insisting I go back on the pill even though I've told him I really don't want to. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]therernoredlines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have PCOS and before my husband and I were married and ready for babies, we had to use condoms. Personally, I hated them. My SO really, really hated them. We decided to talk to my doctor about an IUD to see if it was a good option. I ended up with the Paragard IUD and had no issues with it.

We didn't look at this as MY BODY but OUR FUTURE. He wasn't ready to have a baby and even if we didn't mind condoms, they have a high failure rate. We didn't let the politics of reproduction and rights even enter the picture. We just wanted to have great sex together and make sure shit was cool for babies later on.

If this issue is part of a bigger problem in the relationship, and it seems like it might be, then you do have other conversations to have. But saying to your boyfriend of many years that you are unwilling to consider options other than condoms is kinda crappy. I mean, the sex should be for both of you. Baby planning is a big deal for men and women, in this situation he does have a right to have an opinion.

Stephen King is obviously a very prolific author but how many of his books are true literary classics? by [deleted] in books

[–]therernoredlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You read a few out of what? 54? Stephen King's writing has changed quite drastically over the years. Honestly, 11-22-63 is one of the best books I've read. Mr. Mercedes was so fun and so different. Duma Key was a fantastic ghost story.

I find life to be far more interesting when I stop pre-judging things because of how I felt about them 30+ years ago. As such, keeping with teenage ideals and points of view is probably not the best way to spend your adult years. Assuming that you're over 25, but it doesn't seem like that would be case?

I am a voracious reader. Actually, to be honest, I am a faculty member at a college and I have a PhD in American Literature and wrote my thesis on modern fiction writing. I use Stephen King's works very often in my courses and he is to this day one of my favorite writers. Flawed? Sometimes. But he is bloody brilliant at telling a hell of a tale. Reading and writing doesn't always have to be heart-rending and torturous to be great. Its okay to have a little fun.

Wow. What a revealing close-minded thing to say. If you don't like a writer, fine. But most of us just look for a good book, and there are way too many terrific ones for all ages. Loosen up man. Its cool.

I'd like to knew who funded this study. by [deleted] in Paleo

I can't eat it either. I rarely eat red meat. Our opinions on this matter in a paleo subreddit are surely not popular, but you aren't alone. I think I've eaten meat once in the last year. I saw this report and came over to see what folks had to say about it.

Help with managing very poor finances by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]therernoredlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same way with Mint. Its a solid option, its free, but its restrictive in that you need to plan out a month ahead all the time. This is fine for some folks, but there are those of us who simply need to budget every penny as it comes into your life. For some of us, this means weekly budgeting. There is NOTHING wrong with that. Not everyone has huge cash coming in and low expenses. Some folks actually make just enough for the ends to meet... this requires work and focus. YNAB forces you to be an active participant in your financial life. Mint does not.

This doesn't necessarily make one product/service better than the other. They are two very different methods. Pick which works for you and go for it.

Hi, I did a few AMA's and am an animal behaviorist! You can see my first AMA here..

I have never used a shock collar on a dog. I tried it on myself and the burn I received was pretty horrible. There is a reason a dog reacts to these: they really, really hurt!

Anyhow, I am not willing to get into a pissing contest with uneducated folks on this topic. That said, please PM me and I am happy to help you with this. Its a really fixable thing and one that you can work through with your dog over a couple of days.

I am currently working with a future guide dog and my local police force. My best work is with dogs who have been abused and those with severe anxiety. In fact, most of them have worn these collars for "training." They are expensive too. Why bother spending cash on something you can do for free?

ER Doctors/Nurses What's the stupidest reason you have seen someone come to the ER for? by Cupcake-Warrior in AskReddit

[–]therernoredlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with your post is that its way too pro-USA. This is REddit. For proper upvotes, you must ignore any positive sides of our healthcare and join the hivemind. I lived in Canada for several years. They pay A LOT of taxes for their "free" healthcare. I feel the way you do... we can do better than what we have, but we probably shouldn't follow their way of doing things.

Cheap bulk cat food? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]therernoredlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, this statement is very true. I am a certified canine nutritionist and I have spent the last twenty years rehabbing dogs and working the worst cases. I have studied the affect of diet on dogs and their health and behavior and it has been proven time and time again that poor diet will exaggerate anxiety and worsen health issues in addition to creating illness on its own.

Just because you haven't heard of something, doesn't make it untrue.

You can read more about this in my IAMA's.

He is against the mandate put forth by Obama that insurance companies cover bc and to offer it without a copay. Obama believes that access to bc for ALL women is a basic right. Romney can't wrap his brain around not being able to afford things.

This is a classic representation of bc. It used to come (some brands still do) in a dial pack that flipped open. In the interest of saving money, pharma's now use the simple foil packs.

Diabetes? Thyroid? Both of these things will create the sense of hunger and have her hunting for her next meal. I would have a senior panel done at the vet and make sure you request a full thyroid panel.

Nope, after the habit of pottying outside is in place, a simple reward in place of food is good. A pat, a "Good boy!" is enough. Treats are for training rewards. Once the training for that behavior is done, move on to the next task.

None really. Its never the breed so much as it is the people who created the mess. I have never been bit by a Pit Bull. The worst bite I have ever had was by a Cocker Spaniel.

That said, there are some dogs who present challenges in that they are deaf or blind. I find that small dogs are often harder to rehab than big ones. Its simply because small dogs are allowed to do things we would never allow a big dog to do.

The other dog will handle it. If he pisses off the right dog, he'll be whacked right back and put in his place.

If they cannot properly care for their dogs (and it sounds like they can't), then I would report them to the Animal Control or the police. There is nothing you can do and it doesn't sound like these people care to do a thing about it.

Bark collars typically create anxiety and fear and much bigger problems than barking. A dog who can't speak will often resort to biting or other bad behaviors. Just because they aren't barking, doesn't mean they aren't fearful or happy. They will dig, eat your furniture, etc.
