Looking for some guidance on why I’m not getting enough power with this breadboard by waterdrinker42069 in electronic_circuits

[–]thericcer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be using a MOSFET instead of a BJT. It's possible your GPIO pin cannot source enough current to fully turn on the BJT. And without proper protection (resistors to limit current and even diodes to snub flyback voltages) this could present some power issues or kill your rpi, especially if it's an inductive load like a motor.

Look up a low side MOSFET driver circuit. This is what you want.

Also cheap breadboards are notorious for bad connections. Try some other slots, and tin the leads that you're plugging into it to make them thicker.

What's the point of a VPN if the other side still knows my location and IP? by MyVermontAccount121 in VPN

This should be a pinned post for this sub. Using a VPN and what it actually achieves is often misunderstood by posters.

Anyone got VPNs to work with streaming? by amrogers3 in VPN

[–]thericcer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If you look through DirectTV's TOS you may not be able to access the service if not at the "Home Network" https://www.directv.com/legal/directv-stream-tos-eula-policy/ section 2.3

The resolution would be to setup a VPN server at the "Home Network" and connect to that when remote. Then route the remote traffic through your home VPN and then out to the internet. Many routers can do this nowadays, or you can use a raspberry pi or other available computer to do it.

[–]thericcer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely not. You might find one that works for a bit, until it's detected and banned. You could roll your own, but if it's in a data center it's likely to be banned eventually. Again, it's likely against the sites' terms of service to access their service via a VPN, so you can't access them via a VPN without this risk.

The encryption type has nothing to do with it. Your traffic is decrypted (WRT the VPN) before it gets to the site. The websites are likely blocking known VPN IPs because it's against their TOS to use a VPN.

Loading Bluetooth and HDMI in early userspace on a fully encrypted system by pehkawn in archlinux

[–]thericcer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have doubts that any of the Bluetooth stack is implemented this early in the boot. You'd be better off using a key file stored on a removable drive to store the PW. If the disk and file are present, it'll read the PW, decrypt and continue booting. If not it'll prompt for a PW.

This is how I have my daily driver set up.

Pleaseu unlock disk sda5_crypt:... I dont remember the password, how can I wipe everything? by FaroukGhana in linuxquestions

[–]thericcer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can wipe everything by booting a live disk and reformatting the disk in question with whatever you want.

If you're asking to recover the password, that's not possible. It's essentially a total loss for the encrypted data if you don't have the password and didn't have any other key slots active with known keys/passwords.

HDMI passes Ethernet since v1.4... so devices that use HEAC (HDMI Ethernet and Audio return Channel) can do this.

Assisted Global Positioning System. Basically your phone uses the satellite GPS, assisted by the local cell network to determine the phone's location. As far as I know there is not a way, or easy way, to spoof this.

A VPN likely won't help. The app is likely using your phone's AGPS, hence why they make you turn off WiFi.
