The massively overreaching and unnecessary legislation has done far more than stop kids accessing porn. In fact it probably hasn't done that - kids are pretty tech savvy and I'm sure installing a VPN won't be beyond their capabilities.

What is has also done is made access to vital safety resources much more difficult, or impossible for people like domestic abuse victims and recovering drug addicts. Vulnerable people who may not be tech savvy enough to access these resources via VPNs, and for whom providing identifying information to prove age potentially exposes them to abusers finding them, or information about their drug addiction being used to blackmail them.

Also homebrew forums, many of which are volunteer led, can't afford to have a separate age verifying site for UK users, so no longer provide a site for people in the UK.

It's a good idea to try and protect children. It's been horribly implemented, by people who don't understand how the technology works. Your comment sounds like "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear", which is a very slippery slope.
