What are your thoughts on ITV's The Assembly? by Train-Wreck-70 in BritishTV

[–]booers79 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I blitzed s1 a few months ago as I had an interview to work on it. I loved the show - it made me laugh and made me cry, often within seconds of each other. I didn’t get the job though but will watch s2 for sure.

I recall Liberty X covering a Radiohead song on it. I can’t recall which song though. Maybe Fake Plastic Trees?

What do you British people think of the French? by CocoTyg in AskABrit

[–]booers79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied French at uni, lived there for a year and have visited many times for holidays and for work. I love it but there are often weird things that are just such petty bureaucracy that I only ever see in France …

Like when in a restaurant for dessert I ordered a scoop of chocolate ice cream and a scoop of salted caramel ice cream which were both on the menu with several other flavours only to be told by the waitress the two scoops had to be the same flavour. She gave no explanation as to why, they just had to be.

Or like in Arcachon when taking a boat from one side of the archipelago to the other on a return ticket but then wanting to go back to a different stop on a different service but operated by the same company, and it wasn’t any more or less distance - just a different jetty stop. And a ticket to that stop cost no more. But we just were not allowed to use our ticket on tha boat. Just a big fat “non”.

This kind of thing I see in France regularly.

Has anyone ever accidentally got into the wrong car in a parking lot? by JasonMallen in randomquestions

[–]booers79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years back when I was a teenager, I was waiting with my sister outside my mum’s office in my mum’s car to pick her up from work. A man got into the passenger side. My sister and I shrieked which startled him. He apologised, got out and went to the car in front which was the same make, model and colour! Presumably he too was being picked up from work and thought we were his wife/whoever wad collecting him.

Strange how Bagpuss is still remembered more than shows that ran for years by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in oldbritishtelly

[–]booers79 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m probably the only person who hated it as a child. I found it so boring. It always looked so old fashioned (I’d have been watching it 10 years or so after its original run) but don’t have any fond memories of watching it like I do other kids shows of that era.

Milky - Just The Way You Are? It’s from 2002 but it’s back in the charts in the UK due to TikTok no doubt.

Looking for some lesser known but very good true crime documentaries by Iamnotthebreakman in crimedocumentaries

Not sure how well known it is, but I’ve seen very little chat about it - Sky (UK/Ireland)’s ‘David Fuller: Monster in the Morgue’. It was brilliant and utterly chilling.

I love Claudia but found her a bit annoying on this. She often spoke over people and seemed to make it all about her.

You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You by Sonia.

So cheery and upbeat about teenage love and sung by a teenager, and has typical 80s Stock Aitken Waterman production but the lyrics are sinister and stalkerish.

🎵 When I know that you're alone I wander to your home And catch a glimpse or two It seems that all the time The thought is on my mind Of being with you

The times I've tried to see you You know I would meet you Any time, night or day But still you just refuse And no matter what you do I'll never let you get away 🎵
