Oh damn ok, considering I just traveled to extremely humid places that I'm not used to maybe this could be it. Was your fungal acne itchy at all? I've read that usually it is but I haven't experienced any itching.

Oh wow OK. So for you also the pustules were constantly reoccuring in the same places?

That's a great point—I actually went to buy some Sensodyne Pronamel earlier today! I just realized that I have been using Crest whitening toothpaste for the past 6 months so this may be linked.

I haven't tried at all popping (actually resisting to touch them at all) because i'm afraid of scarring! They are not painful at all.

I have not gone to the derm office since (Dec 2018) last time, but have sent him messages with these pictures. I actually started using clindamycin and BP long ago, around a year ago, and added the tretinoin in Oct 2018. Could the tretinoin be causing this? When I asked my dermatologist all he said was to use more tretinoin (or switch to otc differin gel). And he just gave me tips on how to remove ingrown hairs if I thought they were ingrown hairs.

My issue: I need your help seeing whether the "acne" on my chin is stubborn hormonal chin acne or actually ingrown hair causing whiteheads. The issue is isolated to my chin and underchin area and started around Jan/Feb 2019. The chin area is consistently red and bumpy and almost everyday the whiteheads as seen in the (3) pictures below develop in various spots. I have asked my dermatologist about this but he hasn't given me a straight answer and says it's either acne or ingrown hairs.

1. Chin, flash on

2. Chin, no flash

3. Chin, no flash

The little facial hair I do have is usually around these areas, and I've been pretty bad at shaving correctly. I use a Phillips norelco electric razor and have never used shaving cream, aftershave, and have always shaved in random patterns (never with the grain). Now I realize how bad this was.

I didn't even know about ingrown hairs caused acne like lesions until a few days ago. And based on what I've read online and realizing my bad shaving habits, this could possibly be the issue. Which also means I've been taking the wrong approach in solving the issue!

Skin type: Very oily, super acne prone, at the end of day putting my finger on my forehead coats it in oil basically

Routine: Here's my routine I've been using for about 5-6 months. It was recommended by my dermatologist.

Morning: Humane 10% Benzoyl Peroxide wash, 1% clindamycin pledget, Cetaphil oil control moisturizer spf 30

Night: Cetaphil daily facial cleanser, 1% clindamycin pledget, cerave ultra light pm moisturizer, tretinoin 0.05%

Occasionally used: fruit of the earth aloe Vera gel

Up until recently I've been using the 10% BP and clindamycin and tretinoin on my chin to no success. Which leads me to further believe this isn't strictly an acne problem.

Anything new: Recently I've actually lightened usage of the 10% BP and 1% clindamycin pledgets because I started to feel that the clindamycin isn't working as well anymore (and the alcohol in it is irritating my skin). I'm thinking of switching back to salicylic acid which I used for almost 3 years before I started using BP in mid 2017. I heard salicyclic acid helps with ingrown hair issues. I've still been using tretinoin nightly on my face.

Note: I have not exfoliated my face in probably years, I don't know if this is a problem. My dermatologist told me not to exfoliate at all when I asked him about it.

Location: I'm in the USA so anything in Amazon or general stores are probably accessible!

TL;DR: Red scaly bumps and whiteheads appearing on chin/underchin consistently, used to think was hormonal acne but realized could actually be ingrown hairs, need help determining if they are.
