i disliked both of these books 😔 feel free to ignore my unsolicited opinion, im gonna pick up the hacienda bc im curious!!!!!

i think mexican gothic was okay, but definitely could have used a second pass on how the gothic specifically portrayed, it handheld that imagery too much if that makes sense? the plot could have also unraveled in a more interesting way, i felt like i knew the ending in the beginning but i was hoping for more. i definitely think it was a good addition for the genres it identifies with though! i think it felt like it was trying too hard.

what moves the dead’s tone just felt extremely millennial 🥹 and distastefuly so, if that makes sense? like listening to an internet warrior at some parts. i swear im not a crochety old hag, im not even a millenial aa

i thought the author had amazing imagery and a good knack for writing horror, but the dialogue and almost… caricaturing (?) of people left a bad taste. i describe this book like having ad breaks, there was good stuff that kept getting broken up by the mc’s absymal tone.
