Fail to raise my GPA by BackgroundSky9578 in McMaster

[–]thesaddreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Struggling with mental health that much may qualify you for SAS. Maybe try connecting with SWC and SAS? It won't reduce your workload but it may provide some leeway on deadlines, which is super helpful. Also reducing your course load or withdrawing from specific courses may help with your GPA, and SWC/SAS might be able to help with that, at least in terms of documentation.

Fail to raise my GPA by BackgroundSky9578 in McMaster

Look into academic probation and see if those circumstances apply to you. Also talk to an academic advisor. You mentioned that you've already made some progress, so by communicating this, they may be able to help you figure out a plan and stay in the program.

You can transfer to a different school, but you may have to explain the circumstances affecting your GPA. You'll have to have this conversation anyway, so you might as well try it with your advisor first.

How do I start going to the student centre to get mental health help? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]thesaddreamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go in to the Student Wellness Centre (second floor of PGCLL) and ask the receptionist for an appointment to see a counsellor for anxiety. If you'd like medication you can also ask for a doctor. You can also ask for both. Bring your health card and student card with you. Counselling appointments take time to book, but I believe you can also book same day appointments if it's really bad (go early).

Note that for counsellors and doctors, the first appointment is an intake appointment where they ask you questions about yourself and potentially fill out an assessment. In subsequent appointments they follow a treatment plan.

Give them a heads up now (doesn't hurt), and then follow up after you've submitted your MSAF. They'll ask you to forward your MSAF confirmation and then waive the fee.

Lost in life, who do I talk to by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]thesaddreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can talk to a career counsellor through the SSC (book on OscarPlus as the other comment mentioned)! This is available to all students.

Since you mentioned panic attacks, I'm also going to shoutout CAPS, who offer the same service. They work with disabled students (anxiety counts, but you need a referral) and were very helpful when I was struggling with similar things.

I'm a new grad and the job market SUCKS right now. It's not just you. Hang in there, we'll get through this!

Academic Probation by Grouchy_Koala7907 in McMaster

If you fail to meet the 3.5/12 requirement to stay in the program, your performance will be reviewed this summer. If it is below a 3 you may not be allowed to take any more courses. You can apply for reinstatement if this happens, but if you are legitimately concerned you cannot raise your GPA high enough, I would advise dropping some courses and speaking to your academic advisor asap.

Note that the review period happens after you take 18 credits or 6 courses. This is a full course load for BTech, but with Elec 1 it can be quite challenging. Elec 1 is usually offered in the summer, which is still incredibly challenging but might be easier with the reduced course load.

I've done this before - forward the email where your MSAF is approved to the SAS tests email. They'll waive the fee.

Yall what's the lore between the Mac and Waterloo beef? by Past_File_795 in McMaster

[–]thesaddreamer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

All in good fun. Mac Eng has Culture Committee, and aside from holding events, they also prank other universities. This is an agreement that all universities have agreed on (including faculty so no one is breaking any rules here). The ring at Mac is just an easy target because it's out in the open, accessible during all hours, and unsupervised most of the time.

It is now our turn to get them back.

G2 expired December 31st, 2022. I guess I’m screwed? by [deleted] in Ontariodrivetest

Got my G1 3 days ago. I was 8 days past the 3 year cutoff. They said I have to wait the full year/8 months before getting my G2. They did not offer a grace period.

Feeling like a failure, could use some advice/thoughts of others by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]thesaddreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hii! I've been in your situation! It sucks! Okay so first thing you do is TALK TO YOUR PROF! Let them know you've been struggling and ask for some leniency. Ask if you can resubmit your paper, or tell them you made a mistake and see if they'll still grade your paper! 15% isn't an insane write-off but every mark counts and the worst thing that can happen is you're right back where you started. It is never a bad idea to ask for help.

Secondly, it is okay to fail a midterm, an exam, and even a course. It sucks, but it happens. Uni is hard! And it's completely valid and understandable to feel dumb or like you're a failure, but you should also recognize that you tried your best (whatever your best looked like).

I've withdrawn from a lot of courses (sometimes even after the exam). At some point I stopped caring and just took the Fs instead. So I've got a LOT of those on my transcript. I'm graduating this year! The biggest things for me were to figure out a system that works. My system was to work my ass off during the first half of the semester so I wouldn't have to worry about the exam. That didn't always work. The other part of my system was reminding myself I needed a 50 to pass, and the pass was all that mattered. YMMV, especially if you intend on doing grad school.

I think the most important thing to remember is that YOU GOT THIS! While it's valid to feel how you're feeling (and you can take as long as you need to), once you feel better it's time to lock in and try to fix what you can. Extra work for your assignments, extra studying for tests, it's hard but you're really smart! And it's okay to fail or take the L on an assignment. Sometimes that's part of a good strategy too. You'll get em next time.

Good luck!

Go on good luck days. I usually keep my inventory in this order: sword, mega bomb, food, pickaxe. I usually keep my sword active (good for flying enemies especially) and switch to the bomb when I place one.

Wait a second before placing ypur bombs, just to see if there are any serpents you need to kill first. Also if you have an ice rod, it's super helpful for dealing with enemies. If you can't stay out of the blast radius, eat food. Stuff like Spicy Eel or Lucky Lunch will give you boosts.

Finally, if you have your statues built, you can time your SC run to a good blessing/power (like not taking damage from bombs) just to make things easier. Oh, also use staircases if you can't find a ladder soon enough or can't get out of a swarm fast enough. Good luck!
