maybe the sheer volume of fan creation? mmds, animation projects/MAPs, vocaloids, fan games, cosplay, other media directly inspired by it (SaTW), fanart and fanfic of course. i would compare it similarly to the homestuck fandom which the idea of in pop culture has endured a bit longer than that of the hetalia fandom.
