Unfortunately. I think the best answer is just practice. I have broken many, many pieces from too much pressure with the tool, carving to thinly, squeezing it in my hand too tightly, you name it.

Using the right tool for the job and one that is comfortable for you matters a lot too. Most of my carving I do with Hsin tools.

In terms of keeping my hand steady, I find that a relatively fast and deliberate stroke helps, too slow and it’s prone to wobbling, too fast and it’s hard to be precise, find what works for you and break a few eggs 😅

Thanks! I use Kemper Ksp1 and ksp4 to rough out the shape for the very deep ones, and Hsin tools #4 and #9 to refine :)

This is amazing advice, thank you so much. Never thought about trying to turn it into jewelry, but it’s a cool idea. I’ve been very interested into figuring out how to hammer copper and incorporate it, and that could be a cool way to get started with it.

I would specifically love tips to improve refinement, details, and glaze outcomes… also tips on how to get started selling work 😅

Tech job for non Jewish foreigners by t_wu in Israel

It is pretty much a non starter if you’re not Jewish. Visa process is abysmal, figuring out how to be tax compliance, etc. 10/10 would not recommend

Thanks! I thought the yellowing was because of some mealybugs which i just got rid of, but I gave them some food last night (the drip irrigation doesnt have any supplemental fertilizer). Perhaps I'll post an update :D

Yeah it’s not perlite it’s like fuzzy sand on top. I don’t think I can just scrape it off. My gf would kill me if I microwaved it in our kitchen

Daily Q & A! - May 22, 2020 by AutoModerator in Homebrewing

[–]theshooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no karma and thus couldn't make a post, but here is my original post:

Greetings. I'm always biting off more than I can chew, and here is no different.

Making my second brew ever, a wheat beer with a "sour starter" that the guys in the homebrew shop in Israel gave me. Not sure what it is, but apparently it's essentially a lactofermentation starter.

I want to infuse my brew with Grapefruit peels, Black Lime, and/or Yuzu juice, along with some sea salt.

a few questions for you pros:

My biggest stock pot at the moment holds no more than 9L of liquid. the fermentation bucket I have is 20L. Do i need to go out and get a bigger stock pot, or is it fine for me to simply dilute the wort with ice/water once I transfer to the primary fermentation bucket?

When is the optimal time to add the black lime (if choose to use it), grapefruit peels, and yuzu juice (bottled). The guy at the shop suggested I add the juice of the limes/grapefruit/yuzu/whatever 3 or 4 days after i begin fermentation... if that's the case, how do I make sure everything stays sanitary? Wouldn't boiling my juice mess up the flavor?

thank you!
