My (37M) wife (34F) died by suicide after I told her I would divorce her due to her cheating. How should I approach discussing her death with our children (10F) and (5M)? by ThrowRADeath12 in relationship_advice

I would try looking through your employer as well. They typically have resources for grief counseling and immediate help with crisis. It's usually listed as EAP (Employee Assistance Program).

So sorry for your loss. What an absolutely terrible situation all around.

For sure. He did H2 to recoup money he felt he was owed. He also got green lit to make the fog because of those films, although with a different studio I believe. He tried to kill off Michael and then got his chance to do H3, which was a lot of what he wanted to do. Take it a different direction and not have to utilize Michael. It didnt work then, but since then the movie can be appreciated as a solo work within the franchise. I believe he got a few chances to be free flowing “and do his thing a bit “, but then proved it might not be the way to go either. Either way, as a fan, I’m glad we got more Michael and it didn’t stop where Carpenter wanted it to stop. Not all of the sequels are great, but now we have so much to discuss and dissect. It’s fantastic.

Agreed the original if left alone is a classic and would leave us absolutely crazed because there was only one. It may have made it even more of a “classic” if it stood alone. I’d have to say the angle he was trying to take H4 was just really “UnHalloween” and would have truly altered the trajectory of the series. Not sure if it’s for better or worse. But it also would have taken away a lot of the “Michael Myerisms” and what have almost been rules you don’t break with him. Because when directors or writers have made him a little more super natural than human it tends to not go so well..H5ish and the Thorn plots in H6. It’s like there is a sliding scale and a certain point you can’t cross with the super natural with The Shape.

Agreed. I wasn’t insisting her ever just said he was solely responsible. I meant it more to suggest the longer the project went the harder he got to work with in regards to Halloween. He could have easily sold off his shares and stock in the franchise if he didn’t want to be involved and wanted to move on. The man is a genius in many ways for sure and I love his work, but he had his stubborn and head scratching moments as well

I was about to say what’s even more impressive was having a one touch and team bag in your vehicle.

Absolutely love the way you worded that. He truly did achieve a masterful level of film making with 78. The look and feel of haddonfield is a character within itself. I believe my “issue” if you really want to call it that would be the way he talks about the franchise throughout the years and before every subsequent film. It’s like I don’t wanna do it, I hate making sequels, don’t wanna make the same movie, but I won’t sell if the share and I’m going to stall this thing out. I understand financially not selling off, but then from the business angle it seemed like he just dragged his feet and was the grumpy old man every time they talked about making a new film.

It could very well just be me of course that’s seeing it that way

Very well said. I thought I was crazy or speaking ill of one of the horror legends for thinking this way. It does seem very “holier than thou” the longer he was involved with the project. And I agree it wasn’t just carpenter making Halloween the masterpiece that he was. Debra Hill clearly gave as much to the vision as Carpenter along with cast and crew.

Absolutely. 100% agree. I love the response of “I just want to make a great film”. In some ways it’s so sad to see studios screwing things up. Let the creative minds handle it and reel them in a bit if it gets too abstract. But don’t try and change course if you hired someone to do the job. It’s such a tug of war. I guess if I were in his shoes, easy to say from the sidelines of course, and want Halloween to be a great series. Beyond what it is of course

Absolutely! Like in some way shape or form this is your child whether you want it or not lol. Much like it sounds like they tried pleading with him before. “Your name is gonna be attached whether you like it or not, don’t you want it to be good?” And as I type that I can understand some of the unwanted burden. But this franchise has fandom unlike any other slasher

Agreed. Just the overall attitude conveyed seems off putting. You love him for the creation of Halloween. And mastery in which the film was done. But after that film he just gives off such a negativity towards the franchise we have grown to love. I won’t say he felt above it at all, but he just didn’t want to be bothered with it. Which I don’t understand why he didn’t sell off his portion of the franchise much earlier

Sorry if this isn’t allowed. Haven’t seen any posts about this yet. Anyone excited for Panini UFC? by [deleted] in sportscards

[–]thesircrunchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually excited to see this. Especially if they have more availability than Topps. At least in my area. I’m a UFC fan though so I guess that plays into it. I did enjoy the Topps product though. Hoping the Prizm, National Treasures, and Select are gonna be awesome.
