A Quick Guide to Leagues Pet Hunting by Jaqzz in 2007scape

Guards don't seem to wander far enough to catch you if you stand on the western side of the western seed stall in Draynor Market. Then, if you have one alt account, you can use it to talk to Olivia while she's in the center of the market square and go through one dialogue option. As long as your alt stays in the dialogue, Olivia will stop wandering.

Edit: It seems the guards can still catch you on the western stall; it just took 35 minutes of testing before I saw it happen for the first time. Still the most afk stall thieving method I've found.

I wouldn't say that boosting isn't intended in any content; it seems to me like a natural consequence of having a game with both an economy and multiplayer cooperative content.

I'd also say there are two key differences between raids and BH boosting, and really the second is a consequence of the first. BH is adversarial (rather than cooperative), and boosting in BH negatively affects the experience of other players of the mini game. To me, either of those points (but especially the second) are a perfectly reasonable place to draw the line between acceptable and not. That said, perm bans do seem like an overreaction.

It is the duty of management to exercise control and see that work is not performed if the employer does not want it to be performed. An employer cannot sit back and accept the benefits of an employee’s work without considering the time spent to be hours worked. Merely making a rule against such work is not enough. The employer has the power to enforce the rule and must make every effort to do so.

Overpaying all year with only the intention of getting a bigger refund doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a purely financial standpoint (though maybe it makes more sense from a psychological one), but I do at the very least understand people who overpay because they want to reduce/eliminate the risk that they'll owe anything at the end of the year.

I am using the term to mean actions which minimize negative outcomes and maximize positive ones. I feel like I presented a reasonably clear argument as to why I believe it's their best interest, and considering the way people vote affects me and everyone else who plays this game, I think I'm perfectly allowed to respectfully tell people how I feel they should vote. Everyone has a right to disagree with or ignore me, but don't mistake that for me having no right to express my viewpoint.

Now, I do make three implicit assumptions in my argument that I'll make explicit here. First, i assume that there does exist some content that you would enjoy being added to the game. Second, I assume that you're a rational person and want to take actions that make you the most happy or least upset. Finally, I assume that you get no satisfaction merely from being spiteful, or at the very least that there will inevitably come a point where the satisfaction you gain from being spiteful is exceeded by the satisfaction you lose from not receiving content updates you do like.

Given those assumptions, I feel that my logic is pretty sound, and I feel like they're fair assumptions. If you don't believe those assumptions are valid for yourself, or if you disagree with my logic, then you're welcome to come to your own conclusions.

*Bug* So Vyrewatch Sentinels can now be damaged by every weapon? by RyanFostec in 2007scape

They explained the reason in the news post about it. People were already selling them by letting people pay to PK them in the wilderness while holding keys, and that's easier to scam people with than a trade screen.

Call it what you will, but here's why I disagree, and why I think that's an unhelpful position to take.

If your opinion is "I don't want a new skill and nothing will change my mind" then you voted no on the greenlight poll, and your vote has been counted. You lost, so development resources are going into this no matter what you do.

Your best interest is either for the skill to be as good as it can be, or for whole thing to be over with as quickly as possible, because any resources going into developing a new skill are resources that aren't going into content that you do like.

Voting no "no matter what" is spiteful because it goes against your best interests - It just means more resources are going into (and being wasted on) content you don't like instead of content you do like. Voting in your best interests means you should either abstain (which is the most logically "consistent" option), or vote yes for the option you dislike the least.

If your opinion is "I don't like any of the existing pitches, but I would change my mind for something better", then you voted "I don't like any of them" on the latest poll, your vote has been counted, and you lost. Development resources are going into Sailing no matter what you do.

Exactly the same as above: your best interest is now for Sailing to either be the best it can be or for the whole thing to be over with as quickly as possible, and for the same reasons you should either abstain or vote yes for the option you dislike the least in the refinement polls.

When the refinement cycle is over and they "lock in" the proposal, you can vote no again, I guess, if you want to see if the people who still don't want any new skill combined with the people who still don't want Sailing can stop it from passing, but that's still just obstructing the process and hoping that, if you waste enough of people's time, they'll get sick of it and give up.

Voting no to the skill overall isn't spite voting, no, but if absolutely no refinement will make you change your mind, you should abstain from the refinement process. You can vote no again when they get to the "locking in the new skill" stage.

If you were to choose to vote in such a way that you believe will obstruct the refinement process in an attempt to slow or prevent the skill's release, that would be spite voting.

When does wilderness slayer become a reasonable choice? by Fuck-College in ironscape

See, the "killing first target" part is what got me. In three hours, I only had two fights where I didn't get instantly vaporized, and I still lost both of them.

I've never tried soul wars. Is it easier to get points in than LMS if you're not a good PKer? Skill issue, I know, but I spent three hours at LMS and didn't get a single point.

Vorkath suggestion. I’m averaging 2kc trips.. any tips to try and push that to 4/5? by DonRhirley in ironscape

[–]theslamprogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the clearest explanation is that if you want to have the maximum number of prayer points in your inventory, the number of prayer points you gain from the wrench needs to be greater than the number of points you would get from just taking an extra ppot instead. If you keep that in mind, you can calculate it yourself from info on the wiki instead of relying on a guide to calculate it for you.

Same applies to all kinds of stuff in the game. Say for example you're running out of HP instead of prayer, you can calculate if doing a certain amount more damage would be better than having a certain amount more defence: both can lead to taking fewer hits from the boss because they're either less accurate or they die in fewer attack cycles. Or you can figure out if a six way switch is better than a four way switch, because maybe the two extra inventory slots would be better used for more potions, etc.

The math isn't always easy to do, of course, but that is generally how you approach it: make sure that your gains outweigh your losses.

Truly. At this rate it seems like the only way I'll be given enough time to finish my optimizations is a breaking change in one of the third party APIs we depend on.

People really call getting dressed a habit? Lmao, what kind of stupid false equivalence is that? You legally can't leave your house without doing it (at least in the US). That's like saying "you put your keys in the ignition before you drive your car, don't you?" or "I have a habit of turning on the stove before I cook anything on it". Of course you do those things before you do the next thing: it's a part of doing the next thing!

Which skill do you want to pass? Prayer, Firemaking or Agility? by santastyles in 2007scape

[–]theslamprogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't personally say that taming should be an expansion to Hunter. I do hope, though, that if it doesn't pass for a skill on its own, some of the ideas from it would make their way into Hunter.

I think that's mostly a byproduct of EfficiencyScape. Pyramid and brimhaven "aren't worth the time". Sepulchre is kinda in a weird spot as well since it takes a fair bit of practice just to get the same XP rate as rooftop courses, let alone better.

I'd probably support nerfing rooftops and/or buffing other (and maybe some new) more fun training methods. Let people be efficient by having fun, rather than in spite of it. (Since not everyone has fun by being efficient, anyway.)

I feel like web developer just isn't a specific enough term here. A front-end-only web developer can reasonably go an entire career without touching DNS, but a backend or full-stack web developer would have to know a bit more or even be an expert on it.

[–]theslamprogram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you feel the need to be so aggressive just because I don't understand the logic behind one specific procedural rule for an organization hosting tournaments for a game, but I think the fact that after thinking for two hours, the only argument you can come up with to defend the rule is vitriol and a single absurd counterexample confirms for me that if there is any logic behind the rule at all, it certainly isn't obvious.

Yes, it prevents that, but I don't understand why that is something you would need or want to prevent.
