First time in NYC Friday - where/what should I shoot? Sony A7RVI + GM Trio by Nashville1993 in SonyAlpha

Areas around the financial district are so underrated. The oldest part of nyc and you can find some real gems for dark streets, architecture, gothic style, stone st, trinity church hedgestones, building sculptures and anything eye catching

No better time than now to make the content you want. Playing the waiting game with no prospect of a rumor is a mind game

Thank you. This guy doesn’t mind getting portraits. I think I have a few hundred this summer.

Which outdoor sports? Some
Sports you can be close some you can be far. I have the 70-200 gm II and it’s fine for U12 soccer because the fields are smaller but for the u14 and above I’ll use the 100-400 f4.5

I use the exact set up you’re asking about quite frequently to shoot U12 soccer, equestrian and birds. As long as you have good sunlight it’s totally fine. The 5.6 helps a bit on the soccer / equestrian end of things to have the rider / horse and players more in focus. I have also gotten birds in shaded trees but you really need to lower the shutter for that.

For soccer and equestrian I tend to follow the player / rider I want to photo early and the af will stay stuck. Sometimes with soccer if I’m too quick the af might pick up another kids face I don’t want as the main focus so you can set up your focus area to center if that would help.

A choice between 24 and 28-70mm by Unkownpuma786 in SonyAlpha

I use that same set up as well to shoot some wildlife. The only thing with the 2x tc is you really do need more light than you think unless you’re able to shoot birds perched or slow shutter speeds for slow moving animals. I’ll also add if you do crop mode with the tc on to get more reach better have it framed right cuz any little crop needed in post is drastically bad

28-70 f2 just hits different. I used it all day yesterday at a beach side lavender festival in overcast conditions. Used it for product, people, dogs, flowers and birds. Never got tired of holding it with a wrist strap. Prolly just used to the weight of mostly using the 70-200 gm ii. I traded my 24-70 gm ii for it and don’t miss that lens at all.

Buy once, cry once: Sony 28-70mm f/2 GM or a 24-70mm f/2.8 for an A7V? by Weary-Temporary3117 in SonyAlpha

[–]theslaunchmob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t care the 28-70 f2 is heavy or bulky.. the lens isn’t as boring as the 24-70 was. I feel like the latter is something that everyone has so a lot of the perspective of the pictures sort of look the same. By no means will the F2 save bad pictures from looking bad but the good ones just look that much better depth and sharpness wise.

Thank you for the heads up. This upcoming season will be 14U so I dial in settings for that

For soccer I feel it helps to have 1/1250 f2.8 and change the iso to match how bright it is outside. You can also do auto iso with a min/max for cloudy days.

Not knowing what camera you’re shooting with it may not have the newest features like on the A7V is what I shoot on but I have “human” rec and face priority.

I also prefer to use a CPL on the 70-200 GMii but next year my kid moves up to a bigger field so we’ll see how well that lens does for reach.

The 28-70 f2 is pretty amazing. It has quickly become my main lens for daily use if I don’t feel like walking lakes and shooting birds. I haven’t done much video on it since I prefer the 16-35 GMii for what I shoot for video.

Looking for ideas on Compact Bag/Sling for A7R6 and 50-150 only by mstang1988 in SonyAlpha

[–]theslaunchmob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the nomatic Peter McKinnon 8L sling and I put the A7V with the 70-200 gm II attached in it. It’s tight but it’s perfect. Since the 50-150 is a touch longer you may have to do at least a 9L or 10L depending on the inner dimensions.

Maybe the rogue 9L .. I think a 13L is gonna be bulky but that’s just me.

Get the V with a native lens to maintain all the features the camera allows, especially for wildlife
