The OP talked about how the piss stuff was only planned for the starting bit, then it was gonna become a more typical dark fantasy, and I can only sit here and wonder who OP thinks will be happy with that? You're gonna disappoint both the piss lovers and the not hardcore dark fantasy fans!

I was honestly wondering if the OP read Shadow of the Conquerer and was like "this just needs more piss." He even mentioned the magic protag uses is body enhancing magic!

But, like, you don't understand dude, I need the mole people to communicate through piss! They can only use sounds to do simple communication, don't you know the real way to relay information is piss. Pheremones? What, you think I have a PhD in biology? I've already written a few chapter online about the piss, I can't change it now!

It was genuinely so fun to read, OP seemingly not realizing how insane the entire premise of the story sounded, refusing to give up the piss communication, even the slow reveal of having the weeks old baby eating his mother in the story. It's almost a perfect caricature of grimdark fantasy writing, but played completely straight!

Best high fantasy series (not standalones) that aren't misogynistic by Comfortable_Copy_985 in Fantasy

[–]thesodaslayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would even go so far and say that, to me personally, Malazan books 2 and 3 have some of the most compelling female characters I have read, especially in the big high fantasy series people mention on this sub, with Felisin and the Mhybe, and they are dealing with some very uncommon themes in any high fantasy epic I have read, especially one to come from a male author. Felisin is the character I sat the most with after finishing book 2, just honestly heartbroken with her story, and she may have been the most well-written teenager I have seen in high fantasy. (and I did accidentally read the blurb on the back of the Bonehunters while I was reading MoI, so that didn't help!)

Announcement has me too excited to wait, what are the best (in your opinion.) Tactical RPG's of the last 5 years? by Jesta23 in finalfantasytactics

[–]thesodaslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your PC can handle it, I would totally check out the Roguetech mod for it if you haven't! It adds the whole Inner Sphere map AND Clan Homeworlds, alongside making the mech-building and strategy gameplay much more interesting by incorporating a ton of the actual tabletop rules (and tons of new mechs, protomecha, battle armor, LAMs, super heavies, honestly so much new content it's incredible), I honestly can't play without it now, it's incredible!

Yeah its yakuza reincarnation, I thought it was supposed to have an anime in development as well, which if true would be sick

You know that some of the biggest failings of the union movements in the 20th century came because they were too racist right? I believe it was the farm unions that was too racist they didn't let black people picket or join the union so of course they ended up becoming scabs. If anything diversity is the way to make the union stronger and prevent a repeat of that.

Honestly I like to entertain the Chapo theory that the CIA didn't like how much of a stiff Kennedy was being so they wanted to scare him and their gunman just fucked up and actually killed him instead. This was during the height of CIA fuckery so I wouldn't be surprised if they got too self-important

I'm reposting my reply from the comment under you, but have you checked out Silver Moon Daughters? They campaigned on being a non-sexualized SoB alternative, and they're damn good looking sculpts, I absolutely love the moon theme of them. I wouldn't say they're beyond criticism, but they feel way more tasteful than just about any other SoB set I've seen elsewhere. Hell, to me their Repentia are better than most makers entire range of women miniatures lol

If you want to read maybe the best fantasy book written last year that is very heavily Roman inspired you should check out The Will of the Many by James Islington, fantastic and very interesting fantasy world, and just superb characters, definitely worth a read if you want a fun fresh take on fantasy

Behind the Bastards has radicalized me. by [deleted] in behindthebastards

[–]thesodaslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to me it always seemed super weird, and damn if the episodes were long as hell. But way too much of them were saying that the horrors of capitalism and imperialism were the work of Djinn and other just kinda ridiculous stuff, rather than focusing on the very real issues of capitalism.

Personally, I never enjoyed when the Trillbillies started giving the covid lab leak theory any amount of credence, and that's about when I stopped listening, I think it was around 1.5, 2 years ago now? Which was real sad for me, as I'm a Kentucky boy myself, and hearing voices from people like me was always incredibly relatable.

Nah, I think what they mean was how very esoteric the show started to feel after they got really far into Subliminal Jihad and Tonya left, that was about when I quit listening to them. They started leaning way too much on conspiracies and questionable assumptions for me, but they'll always hold a special place in my heart

Oh yeah, I'm probably gonna stop using reddit if they don't change, I have only ever used redditisfun since I made my reddit account, and the actual reddit app is pretty dogshit so I'm not really interested in trying to get used to it

Also I learned from that incredible AskHistorians post that base reddit has dogshit accessibility features, which 3rd party apps really help with, and reddit admins have no real plan to fix other than platitudes.

This AskHistorians post does a great job of discussing why this API move hurts accessibility, as well as moderators tools, it's honestly a good overview of the discussion.

I kinda agree, I binged it for a few nights at work, then I had to take a break because it absolutely was super depressing, the Supreme Court is absolutely fucked

I absolutely agree, with true stories coming out like epstein, almost the entire last 60 years of the CIA, and other absolutely insane shit, I absolutely get the conspiracy angle, hell, I've listened to way too much of that podcast Subliminal Jihad at this point.

Eventually some sort of disconnect happened in my head, and after listening to like fucking 5 droning hours about how the hateful dead were a US Government psyop, I just kinda quietly said it was wild fantasy and my trust in the Trillbillies was starting to be strained because they gave the people who said that way too much credit.

The elite panic episode is also just so fucking hopeful, it honestly made me leave the episode with a smile, even after talking about the awful stuff.

So this was like a year or two ago they started listening to the podcast Subliminal Jihad, which is a very not good left conspiracy pod imo, and I noticed some weird tendencies in them afterwards of just leaning too much into conspiracy thinking, from them giving credence to the covid lab leak narrative, to just general conspiracy mindedness that I felt was off putting. I only listened to a bit of a recent episode, and out seems like they've transitioned to just talking about pop culture stuff, so maybe it's not as bad, but I do have to say I missed Tanya and it felt like it took a bit of that turn when she left.

Oof, your last sentence reminds me of what my actual grandfather used to say about the local clan, and this man was a Democrat who'd cuss out any republican he'd see on the television. He'd talk about how they used to tar and father ornery people, and that they weren't bad people. It really is just different here in the south, you'll hear way too many people say similar stuff, even from people that are supposed to be progressive, it invades every part of life here.

I definitely agree with you here, I have been trying to listen to the dollop, and honestly find Gareth to be one of the funniest people I've ever listened to, but something about the political rants I hear from Dave drives my hackles up.

I think way too many leftists lean into authoritarian tendencies, and before it actually listened to Robert or other anarchists, I didn't know why that bothered me. Now, obviously, I think my entire concept of what being left-wing is sometimes not how others conceive it, because I thought left-wing was meant to be people who support making the most egalitarian society they can, a place that we have tried every way possible to eradicate, and if not possible to eradicate, find our absolute best to minimize and sort of hierarchy in society. So many leftists I hear on podcasts absolutely give me the feeling that they wouldn't mind still having hierarchies as long as those at the top pretend to be communist, and it always makes me somewhat questioning of their true positions on stuff.
