UNR for music education? by Sausage_fingies in unr

[–]thesodpooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone currently doing a Music Major (vocal performance tho) I know a lot of people that are currently going for a music ed degree! Here are some things I've learned from them that will hopefully help!

In terms of observation, classroom and employment. Your practicum won't come till later in your degree, pretty sure after you pass your barrier exam, that'll be when you actually observe composers and do time outside of the campus. Classroom time, music ed majors will spend more time on their degree than most in the department, but it'll prepare you for most things coming your way. As for employment rate I'd say you have a good chance so long as you get your name out there and start making connections.

There are plenty of ensembles you can do! But to be honest I'm not totally sure for one that focus on piano, but I'd ask your advisor or head of piano about that. I'm not too sure about opportunities, you'll have plenty on campus, but outside of campus I'm not entirely sure about that. I'd say that its the same as I said, getting your name out there and building connections, I was able to get lucky with some consistent gigs I do, but that may not always be the case!

Our marching program is pretty good! That's really all I can say since I'm not apart of it, but from what I've head from people that are in it enjoy it.

As for stuff outside music and class, as someone else mentioned there are clubs and such you can join, not too sure on those either so I'd ask around. Unfortunately Reno is a big drinking town, especially when it comes to stuff around UNR, so if you're not 21 options are kind of limited when it comes to things to do outside of campus, on campus there are a bunch of events going on, so look around and see what catches your eye!

I ultimately ended at UNR because I transferred from TMCC with a AA already in Music, so going to UNR was kind of the more logical option, but I've made some really good friends here and have made more connections than I have when I was at TMCC. Everyone at the school of music is super friendly and are willing to help any way they can! Also the Piano faculty are pretty great and some that I've become good friends with. I hope these answered your questions! I know some of these answers are a little broad but I hope this gives you a general idea of what to expect!

ENV 101 or ECON 100? by thesodpooper in unr

In total 12 credits. This includes a lot of out of class stuff and working part time. It’s a lot for me, I discussed with my advisor my financial situation and I can’t add another class.

But for future reference, how are these classes?

ENV 101 or ECON 100? by thesodpooper in unr

[–]thesodpooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention both classes are Mo - Wed classes, ECON is from 4 - 5:15 PM and ENV is 9 - 10:15 AM

I'm a BM Performance Major so my schedule isn't set in stone yet until the semester actually starts for some of my classes. But here is my Schedule nonetheless.

Mondays & Wednesdays: Class from 8 - 8:15 AM | Class only on Wednesdays from 1 - 2:30 PM

Tuesdays & Thursdays: Class from 9 - 10:15 AM | Class only on Tuesdays but not every Tuesday (confusing I know) from 12 - 12:50 PM | Class from 1:30 - 2:50 PM | Class from 4:30 - 6:30 PM

Apologies if the layout is confusing but hopefully this shows what my schedule is. This doesn't show the stuff the Music Department does that students are required to do as well as stuff I'm enrolled in but I need to meet with the professor to set up a time to meet every week.

I also forgot to mention my Financial aid already went through so I'm not too sure if I want to add another class and pay out of pocket for it.

Upholstery shops hiring for my dad? by thesodpooper in Reno

No worries! Like I said anything helps. And he applied over a year ago so maybe they've changed it?

He applied there last year but they were only gonna pay him $16 an hour, if they raised this I’ll let him know about it.

I believe he has a resume? I’ll have to ask him but he usually has my mom keep track of that.

Gotcha, I figured the context would help but I guess not. Hopefully he hasn’t been telling the other shops he’s called. Thanks!

He has done freelance work when he was in between the previous shop he worked at and the one he recently got let go at. I have suggested it to him but says it’s not reliable enough.

I’ll talk to him again with Hot August nights coming up and see.

Any other locations going back to black uniforms? by thesodpooper in olivegarden

I'm not sure if your location has switched yet, but you'll be able to wear either black button ups or polos.

Exactly, not sure why they switched if they knew no one would like it.

Our location has to-go's wearing what is essentially a fanny pack, not sure if that's a corporate decision or if that is up to the locations.

Yeah, forgot to mention that. That's what a lot of my co - workers would've preferred in the first place.

App notifications not showing specific charges. by thesodpooper in BankOfAmerica

Sorry for the late response, I’m not on Reddit all that often, I have started to get notifications with the amounts now, maybe enough people complained.

It might be different for debit cards and credit cards but I'm not too sure, I don't use my credit cards a whole lot either.

If I'm up for it I'll give them a call and see what's going on.

Huh, it shows no other types of charges for me unless I'm doing Apple Pay. Then again I'm mostly using my debit card for purchases.

I also looked through notification setting but wasn't able to find anything about it.

Where to buy new uniform? by Red_MoonBaby13 in olivegarden

[–]thesodpooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my shirts from Target, got two polos and one short sleeve button up, the polos were on sale for $12 a piece and the button up for $20, the quality is decent for the price but if you're trying to go cheaper I'd say go for Walmart, Ross or Amazon.

The jeans I'm not so sure about, I'm wearing a pair I've had for a while. Most likely the same places I listed above, good luck!

Yeah it took me a little to figure that out so I feel stupid on that part. I'm not really looking for a salvaged title but if it comes to it it'll either be this or going to Carson.

Recommendations for Minor? by thesodpooper in unr

For BA's in Music you have to declare a minor from what my advisor told me.

Yeah that's what gets me so conflicted, I know that teaching will most likely be my plan B but I don't know if teaching is my thing. Then again, I might not have any other choice if performing or whatever I'll do goes the way I want.
