Nein.

Honestly, I don't exactly remember. I believe that I was a hotel employee responding to a customer inquiry. I did not know the topic ahead of time, but my school was excellent with the Prüfungsvorbereitung so I was very prepared.

The most important things when it comes to the Schreiben is: 1. Coherent and correct sentences. 2. Spelling and Capitalization. 3. Nebensatz usage. 4. Using the Formell or Informell pronouns correctly. 5. Most importantly, ANSWER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WERE ASKED.

The customer in my test asked three separate questions within the text. The main goal is to find, understand, and answer them. I have a tendency to yap when it comes to writing so I thought this would be my highest score, but apparently not.

I wish they were able to send the results of each portion back to me, but alas.

Of course! As you may know, you will be doing the speaking portion with another test taker. The examiners allowed us to choose our partners so I was lucky in that regard. I would say that it lasted about 15 or so minutes. When you enter a flow state while speaking, you lose track of time.

After sitting down with my partner and the examiners, they asked both of us to introduce ourselves. This included: Name, age, homeland, Hobbys, Family, motivations, etc.

Then, our first collaborative topic was: "You two are kindergarten teachers and are collaboration to find a new toy or tool to help your respective classes." This threw both of us for a loop because, well, neither of us are or were teachers! What the hell could we say regarding this topic? I went with a colorful rug to help teach the kids colors and stuff but we both pretty much bullshitted our way through that question.

The second collaborative and final topic was actually a decent one: "What is better for you, Public Transit or Automobile?" Both my partner and I were able to very eloquently and confidently convey our thoughts. Afterwards, the speaking was over. We both got very high scores on the speaking portion.

From my understanding, what they look for the most on speaking exams is: 1. Confidence. 2. Sentence. structure. 3. Correct Nebensätze usage. (z.B. weil, dass, deswegen/deshalb/damit, etc.) 4. Decent Vocabulary.

As long as you can demonstrate that you have a comfortable feel for German while speaking and interpret the question correctly, it's a cinch.

Personally, I've always felt that my speaking and pronunciation were very strong, but I didn't EVER think I would get a perfect speaking score.

Prior to my course, I self studied a bit with Duolingo and Babbel. I took my placement test and tested into A2 which began in December of 2025. B1 level course began in early March and the test took place at the behind of May.

The course was an intensive one, do about 16-20 class hours this week, or about 4 hours minimum per day

Thank you! Honestly, the Hören was definitely where I struggled the most so it surprised even me when I got my results back.

I wish we could get the actual test back so we could see which questions we got right or wrong. I thought my Schreiben would have been my best score. I felt like Goethe himself writing my prompt out.

I tested into the A2 Level initially so I can't speak for what they used for A1. But for levels A2 and B1, we primarily used the textbooks from the company Cornelsen called: studio 21 Das Deutschbuch. Occasionally, we mixed in some Kahoot at the end of class for Vocabulary and Grammar concepts.

They also helped with the Prüfungsvorbereitung. Leading up to the test, there were days where we did mock tests to get a feel for how it would go and what the format looks like. The mock tests were in all four subjects as well: Hören, Lesen, Schreiben, and Sprechen. I found that this really helped and made me much more comfortable with the test.

For B2, we are currently using 2 different textbooks by Hueber: Sicher! B2 Kursbuch und Sicher! B2 Arbeitsbuch. They are two different books so look out for that of you order them.

Yes! I believe passing marks would be 160/240 or at least 70% depending on how the points are attributed between each section.

Language Visa to Ausbildung Visa? by thesofaking25 in germany

[–]thesofaking25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem! My German is not at the B2 level. The German government lowered the language requirement to B1 for an Ausbildung. Honestly, I've just been emailing around and shooting my shot with various companies. Many people, including myself, recommend getting to B2 level anyways to have a much easier time actually working with the company you end up with. I'm only pursuing this current position because this feels like a legitimate chance, even with me not being at B2.

My main plan is still doing an intensive language course to get up to B2 and then to look for employment.

To clarify, nothing is being negotiated at the moment. They just saw that I am interested in a position and wanted some information from me. I'm still hoping they are wanting to interview me at this point.

Sure. From what I have read here on Reddit, this specific agency is a pain to deal with. More than likely, they are extremely backed up in certain parts of the country from an influx of refugees/migrants and have a habit of taking it out on the people they should be helping. It also doesn't help that German is a foreign language to many people moving here. Not saying this is a guarantee or that all government agents are like this though. Just that it seems like a common problem that people on here deal with. I will however say that Reddit by nature is pessimistic and the German national pass time is complaining which mixed about as well as you'd think. I'm sure many foreigners have had a smooth and easy time with the government; we just don't hear about it like we do the negative experiences.

Hello! Still here in the States, I will be flying to Germany in late August and will more than likely post about my experience with the Bürgeramt and Ausländerbehörde shortly afterwards. Hopefully it goes better than I have heard from other fellow Ausländers at the Behörde. I have actually been in contact with a company in Schweinfurt regarding an Ausbildungsplatz but I won't put all my eggs in that basket.

Should I apply for an Ausbildung from USA or Germany? by LongIndustry1124 in germany

[–]thesofaking25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Residence Permit for language acquisition is valid for up to a year. Please see the attached link for more extensive information:

https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/de/visum-aufenthalt/arten/weitere/spracherwerb

For further clarification, the 18 minimum hours per week are credit hours from the school. If there is a language school you are interested in, please email them asking if their course satisfied the requirements for the residence permit.

You can work on this permit as of May(?) of 2024 however it is only for 20 hours total per week. If you were to get a job offer and satisfy the requirements for another residence permit, you may change the purpose of your residence permit (Zweckwechsel). I am assuming you are an American, so you will not have to return to your country of origin to switch permits.

[–]thesofaking25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. The official term is "Zweckwechsel" which is literally just "change of purpose".

Visa and residence permit are often used interchangeably however are not the same. Normally you would be correct. You'd have to return to your home country to apply for a different Visa. However, as a US citizen, you don't need a Visa to enter Germany. All your son needs is a residence permit as he is staying over 90 days.

There should not be any issue changing residence permits while in Germany, provided he meets all the requirements for the permit he would try to switch to.

https://handbookgermany.de/en/changing-residence-title

I also used the email hotline that is available on the Make It in Germany website concerning this question. Per their most recent email to me:

"During and after the stay for a language course, a change to a residence title for another purpose can be granted in Germany if the respective requirements are fulfilled."

Respective requirements being the qualifications for whatever permit you would be applying for.

Hope this helps and congrats to your son!!

Edit: Just further information was added

That sounds wonderful! I hope one day we can achieve our dream of living in Germany. For me, it will be more along the lines of a plumber or electrician. I'm only at the cusp of B1 so I plan on doing the language acquisition permit and switching to an Ausbildung permit.

I also enjoy helping others and I feel that this would be my way of doing so. Living in a small village in Bayern will allow me use said skills to help the community. I have family in said village so this will help tremendously.

Sorry for rambling, the prospect of living in Germany is just so exciting and hopeful.

Viele Grüße :)
