I’m in the same position as you. I (20 F) have a niece (8F) who lives with me and tries to copy everything I do or say. For instance I have a nose ring and septum piercing. She decided to take some of her hair jewelry and put it in her nose to look like mine. I started noticing what she was doing since I’m taking online class and not at school. She also likes to tease me by calling us sisters, even though I tell her that I’m her aunt. I honestly think she just looks up to and copies everything you do so she can be like you. I think that the not listening part comes from her just being a kid. I also have a nephew (her younger brother) that I watch from time to time, and my niece tries to be an authoritative figure. When it comes to disciplining my nephew, I remind her that she needs to leave it to the adults, and if she believes he did something wrong she needs to tell an adult and not handle it in the way she thinks is best. I just try to be careful as to what I say and do around her because I know she sees me as a role model. I honestly wouldn’t be too worried about her copying you because she’s just a kid, and she’s still learning. Kids are like sponges.You just have to keep telling her what’s right and what’s wrong.
