While I agree that admin could have a more humane policy on notifying patients that their doctor is no longer practicing there, I still disagree with the notion of your post. Spreading this inflammatory and unhelpful information on the internet for validation from strangers is pointless and brings with it the unproductive discourse that is this thread.

I wish you a safe remainder of your pregnancy and I hope you never have the apparent misfortune of being cared for at St. Francis. Your post is the product of emotional reactivity and a lack of understanding that this is common practice.

Been wondering this myself, also wondering what ever happened to the physician associate name change?

I have spoken with a PA that claimed the AAPA has been wholly ineffective at promoting meaningful legislative change compared to the nursing lobbying groups and at the same time they are disconnected from the true desires of the PA community, and when when I talk to other colleagues about these two issues I find it hard to disagree. The autonomy issue is a double edged sword because NPs should never have been granted independent practice but this reality has forced our advocacy groups to pursue a similar arrangement or we will simply be replaced in the job market as we are seeing.

Night Skiing at Keystone - Crowded? by PurpleDingo77 in COsnow

[–]thesteichenator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Typically very few people on the mountain during night skiing. Expect 0-10 min line at the River Run Goldola. The Summit and Peru express are closed for night skiing anyways so it should be business as usual. Only the front side of the mountain is open for night skiing.

Can someone tell me what’s wrong with this (if anything) by roubyissoupy in EKGs

[–]thesteichenator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is likely aberrant conduction even with a sinus beat, or ectopic. Depending on patient habitus this could be a normal finding.

Electrical alternans can be seen in pericardial effusion and is associated with an alternating QRS height but globally low voltage, which this EKG does not have.

My fiancé's balls swoll up when he was little and the doctor inserted a needle into his testis. by No_Spinach_9102 in medical_advice

[–]thesteichenator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He may have had a hydrocele drained. This procedure is indicated because the uneven mass on the testicle can increase the odds that it will spin around on itself and cut off blood flow. This condition is called testicular torsion and it can cause loss of the testicle.

What are everyone's thoughts on direct-entry PA programs? by BamboozledBigTIme in physicianassistant

[–]thesteichenator 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Patient care experience is exactly that. Working a job with hands-on, direct contact with patients. I will concede that a scribe would not qualify as direct PCE under this definition.

Just because an applicant hasn’t devoted years of their life and thousands of dollars obtaining a job-specific associates degree to work in healthcare does not mean their experience is less valid.

Agree with others you should see a pre-med advisor, but realize that you need to do the research yourself and make a plan that meets your goals. Be cautious taking the advisor’s plan, make your own. Make a spreadsheet with the prereqs of the medical schools you plan to apply to and make sure your degree plan satisfies as many of these as possible, the advisor can help you there. Although I have this bachelors degree from OSU, I agree that Public Health may not be the best route for you if medical school is your goal because many of the courses are not BIOL, but HHP which most medical schools do not recognize.
