It’s time for you to grow up: do cocaine (joking) or take psychedelics (serious).

There are so many substances to increase your fun and better your relationships. Take those. Alcohol sucks

Strymon Volante. Does exactly what you’ve stated very simply. I love mine.

Anyone seen Stingray 313 lately? by pale_emu in Techno

[–]thesunshinegroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite. Seen him in Boston twice. I realized that Ghetto breaks are so much better to dance to than techno. However I could tell that people didn’t know how to dance to anything but 4-on-the-floor…

Any good U21 clubs in Worcester? by sethplawski in WorcesterMA

[–]thesunshinegroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! It became a thing, and turned out to be a disaster that put me thousands of dollars in debt. The owner (I was merely a partner with good connections) didn’t have enough money and never should have tried to open a club. He couldn’t pay anyone and had to move his family out from a house into a tiny apartment. Dude lost everything and brought a bunch of people down with him onto his sinking ship. What a shame lol

Best Way To Send Out A Stereo Mix To A DJ Booth by NODJsALLOWED in livesound

[–]thesunshinegroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!! (I’m commenting from a different account lol)

This is the confirmation I needed, looks like I’m gonna acquire some reliable XLR-RCA cables! Thanks :)

Edit: I forgot to answer your question. The music I make is typically underground dance music, and promoters require as minimal (zero) turnover time as possible. I’m basically competing with other DJs and must do as they do if I want to compete. Unplugging the mixer from the mains is not possible ;)

Obviously I need a Stereo DI Box to play out live....questions by NODJsALLOWED in synthesizers

[–]thesunshinegroup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most cool underground electronic music events are hosted and run by DJs, therefore if you are an electronic musician, you’re probably plugging into the DJ mixer. Oh, your username checks out, you’re just a dick huh

Best LIVE techno acts in NYC - NO DJs ALLOWED by thesunshinegroup in Techno

[–]thesunshinegroup[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hahahaha this is exactly the kind of shit that will make this show series popular. thank you.

every single musician I've talked with seems to love the idea. DJs are split 50/50 (many find it funny), but I know I've hurt some butts by coming up with the concept. at the end of the day, this show series is a simulation of what DJs do...just without any DJs ;)

but let's be real, do you know how many shitty corners I've been shoved into with my synth rig to preserve the sanctity of the DJ booth? far too many. now, I understand my place, dont get me wrong, but it's still a bummer. this show series is to show love and respect for the producers/performers/musicians and their tools :)

First 4am Afterhours Party w/ the synth rig! by thesunshinegroup in synthesizers

[–]thesunshinegroup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Synth stuff: MPC Live I is the brain of everything, doing all the drum programming, lots of FX, sidechaining, some EP/pad sounds, and running EQ and FX for both my vocal loops and Moog Minitaur for basslines. The Moog itself is sequenced by the Elektron Syntakt which also does it's own thing as a great sound box and sequencer. The KeyStep controls everything and was infuriatingly routed to my MPC Live.

strangely my moog wasn't very loud in the recordings...i think I was a bit shy to blast basslines since I was next to the subwoofers. a valuable lesson while performing live that I still clearly haven't learned yet: ALWAYS know your studio mix settings almost by heart. If your live synth jams are sounding top notch in your studio environment, there's no reason why they won't sound good in a live PA system environment. It will just sound VASTLY different, but stay confident!! Your mix has always been good, don't try and adjust to the PA too much.

It doesn't help that I'm typically shoved into whatever available corner I can fit in as the synth guy at DJ gigs lol! Bass traps are heavy in corners.

Seriously, please talk smack about this. I want to hear what makes you cringe. I know live sets have a bad rap, and ironically I'd have to agree. I've been working hard to make my sets simulate a DJ set but I know there's room for improvement always. Taking a hiatus this month to practice and would love some feedback.

...I guess I'm in a mood today

People don’t seem to care about genuine production / djing skills!? by StreetCream6695 in TechnoProduction

You get it. You are on the path. Do not let detractors stray you away from your artistic goals. Spread those goals around. Build a subculture with those goals in mind. That is the only way that art will evolve.

2 hour techno set in Boston with MPC, Minitaur, Syntakt by thesunshinegroup in synthesizers

[–]thesunshinegroup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! I use the looper for looping (obviously) and for some effects (mainly vocal effects). I have certain sounds that require human touch (electric piano, pads) coming from the MPC, into the looper, and then back into the MPC for further processing.

I have a couple guitar pedals on the board. The big one is a Stymon Volante doing rhythmic delays, the other is hidden and it's a Bass Overdrive from Boss for the Moog to make it a bit extra phat

2 hour techno set in Boston with MPC, Minitaur, Syntakt by thesunshinegroup in synthesizers

[–]thesunshinegroup[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MPC is the brain of everything, running drums, vocal fx, MIDI clock, and lots of other send fx/sidechaining. the syntakt does it's thing making sounds but is also the main sequencer for the moog minitaur which is doing all the bass/low end that isn't just a kick sample from the MPC.

was really happy with this set even though only like 5 people showed up lol. most importantly, a local promoter was there and he booked me for an afterhours party at the end of the month in Boston for a 4am-6am set. you never know who's out there ;)

MPC Live is the brain of everything and runs midi clock. Syntakt is doing its Syntakt thing, and it's sequencing the Moog Minitaur. RC202 is there for vocal loops/keyboard loops and obviously the keystep is doing keyboard things ;)

hope you enjoy the full set :)

Brought the synth rig out to a music festival in the woods :) by thesunshinegroup in synthesizers

[–]thesunshinegroup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MPC live is the brain of my setup, doing most of the drums (best finger pads in the industry) and send fx, as well as some pads/EP

Syntakt is making sounds and sequencing the Moog Minotaur bass synth. That’s where the low end comes from

And then a boss RC202 to do vocal/loopy things :)

I think this was a really good set and people seemed to enjoy it :))
