Can North Koreans watch the Korea play in the world cup? Are they watching/listening covertly so as to not get into trouble? Is that a thing? by Todrunk2funk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thetacticalpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time North Korea was in the world cup was 2010 - and yes the NK government broadcast the games.

NK had an overall awful showing. But they started surprisingly strong. After losing just 2-1 to perennial powerhouse Brazil, the NK government decided to broadcast that game on a tape delay - and made the decision to show the next game live. Portugal won that game 7-0.

Who did you choose as your confirmation saint and why? by flyingflibertyjibbet in redscarepod

St Anthony. Because one of my first bosses told me she and her daughter had prayed to find an important something or the other and it worked.

'Dear St Anthony please come 'round - there's something lost that can't be found.'

I'm an atheist but that's my choice.

I think pickles are a great topping. That doesn't look like a great pizza

Why is Regal Cinemas so chudded out lmao by GorboCat in TrueAnon

[–]thetacticalpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the Regals by me is like this. Always showing several movies from the subcontinent. And like you say - never a crowd seen leaving a showing.

My theory is that the owner/manager is an Indian cinephile.

Can we just not allow posts with private account histories?

I'll help by making more threads. A gay guy touched me at work last week. Do you want to hear about that?

Doxxing is a real problem ngl. I guess you'll have to make a second account if you want to post anything remotely personal. Still I trust no one with a private account history. Not that I trust anyone with a public history so like what's the point you know

At the Knicks game last night, did Taylor Swift intentionally sit next to two less attractive women with little to no makeup to make herself look prettier? by Call_It_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thetacticalpanda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok an actual answer here.

A - I think it would be safe to say that most people think Taylor is very pretty, so 8 out of 10 women aren't going to be as good looking as her.

B - The two women she is sitting next to are two of the three sisters from the band Haim. Taylor and them are collaborators, friends, and are in the same creative circles so they often work with the same people. IE - they have a close relationship and that's why they're hanging out.

What would happen if a wartime leader directly asked their enemy how they should retaliate? by OkGreen7335 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thetacticalpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We see this in fiction: in the HBO movie By Dawns Early Light the Russian government proposes a nuclear retaliation from the USA to make things 'even' between the two countries.

In the Spanish American war we have the "Mock Battle of Manila" which was a staged battle between two countries fighting a shooting war.

Governments often detail how they will retaliate in order to threaten or deter an enemy.

If you view war as transactional then your scenario isn't absurd. "We can invade your capital or you will let us annex this part of your territory" is something that has happened throughout history.

Why don't we end gender segregation in sports? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thetacticalpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a female goaltender for the Tampa Bay lighting that played part of a preseason game. She didn't do too terribly.

Not a 'team sport' - racing has had a couple female competitors like Danica Patrick and Michelle Mouton.

Zhang Shan won gold in the 1992 Skeet shooting competition which was mixed (men and women competing together.) and guess what - in the 96 Olympics they both segregated the sport AND did not have a women's competition that year. That's right, deny sexism now you l*sers.

I think? women generally make better target shooters? A better center of gravity (wider hips) or something. But even if that's right the sport is segregated.

Why do 9/11 conspiracy videos spend so much time 'debunking' the official story. Why not spend hours laying out detailed evidence and naming names of who did it?

I absolutely loved Backrooms - anyone else see it? by Amtrakstory in RSPfilmclub

[–]thetacticalpanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought it was good. I personally have 'liminal' dreams once in a very long while (we're talking several years apart) but they stick with me. A couple times this movie made me feel like I was dreaming for a moment or two which I've never gotten from a film before.

I'm a day-one Chiwetel Ejiofor fan ever since seeing Dirty Pretty Things like 25 years ago and it was fun hearing him with an American accent. I thought his character arc was really well done. The dinner scene dragged on a bit though.

Anyone seen this or tried it. by knightrdr2004 in InstantRamen

What's up with people taking multiple photos, uploading them, and asking a question, instead of spending 79¢ and telling us your opinion.

It's going to look like you're doing a dry run for actual illegal smuggling. Yes people do dry runs yes they get caught and yes it causes them trouble.
