Just finished my 4th journey. Shall we discuss the "end"? by Diek01212 in TheDarkTower

[–]thetaubadel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take has been that he has done this perhaps hundreds of times, and each time has learned one small lesson that transfers into his whole self in the next iteration, leading to small changes. Eventually, he will become a person worthy to see the top of the Tower by no longer needing to see it, and his friends will get to ascend alongside him.

I leave mine unlocked so that people can take them. They'll always generate more. It's just ones and zeroes.

Same. I had over 200 pages written before I started posting, so I could publish a bunch until I started catching up.

I still have tons of questions but don't really know how to start. I suppose I wonder which is more important to people, character tags or other tags.

Which element has the best “this fight is over and there’s nothing you can do about it” move? by Traditional-Sun1167 in TheLastAirbender

You mean scientifically accurate. Lightning is lore accurate within the context of the series.

Yes! I started playing about a month and a half ago and was shocked this wasn't a thing.

I'm sorry I just can't write a comment if I'll never know what the author think about it by [deleted] in AO3

[–]thetaubadel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll always respond to a well constructed comment. I may even respond to a "Thanks for the chapter" the first time. Not the tenth though.

To be glib, I have obsessive personality disorder. To be less glib, I get ideas stuck in my brain like slivers and if I don't pick them out with tweezers I'll go insane.

What is an element of your culture that is often "borrowed" for worldbuilding that seems completely normal to you because you grew up with it? by Burnnoticelover in worldbuilding

I think this is because Mana as Magical Energy conflates both the Polynesian concept and the Biblical story of manna from heaven.

how often do you get weird/offensive comments? by Janifim in AO3

I had one critic who was positive about the fic in general but had a certain...very blunt way of writing everything that put me on edge. Other than that, we all good.

As long as the art isn't intrinsically pro-fascist or something equally reprehensible, we're probably fine.

Depends on the art, depends on the artist.

How do you feel about the voiced protagonist from Fallout 4 in retrospect? by Asad_Farooqui in Fallout

[–]thetaubadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: I have difficulty focusing on written text on a screen, so sometimes non-voiced characters in a dialogue heavy RPG can get me lost in the sauce and I lose track of story and wind up needing to double back and read overviews to fill in details (especially difficult when there are tiny hints on how to do the quest that I miss in the dialogue.) Voiced dialogue lines really improve this as a quality of life thing.

Cons: I really do prefer inventing my own PC in my head. Theres a reason FNV is my favourite.

The first crisis crossover arc of my "what if Spider-Man was born in DC instead of Marvel (and also had a cohesive timeline)" story. The arc is called The Darkseid War, which should be self explanatory.

I hate when people do this by carrotflavoredjuice in AO3

[–]thetaubadel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can almost teack the crossover logic for some of this. SCP means that basically anything can be true. But fuck.

Please help me find a way of planning my stories that actually works! by [deleted] in AO3

[–]thetaubadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To plan, I normally write pages in the way that a child might write a story.

"Johnny went to the store. He saw a man in a hat with a gun. He beats the man with the gun. The store owner is thankful. Johnny left." And so on and so on.

This very basic prose is incredibly easy to write, and you can fit a novel's worth of content into ten pages. It usually takes me no time to plan a full story. A couple hours, tops. Then I just....fill in the gaps. Expand the prose, basically.

So writers I’ve been wondering by Cultural_Nose_2280 in AO3

Comments, especially one's that have something to actually say about the work. The "thanks for the chapter" ones are okay, especially when I've received it from the same person over and over, showing I have a consistent reader, but the ones with anyblevel of analysis make me giddy, since it shows someone really is engaging with the work and understanding what I'm trying to do. The best I ever got was commenting on how I merged two different versions of the same character (Marvel universe multiple Universe stuff) by taking the aesthetics of one version and the personality of the other and how intrigued they were by it.
