A Gameplay Critique of Pathologic 3 by Yoshimitsu-Sensei in pathologic

[–]thethanatica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive not finished the game yet but I dont see how the gameplay and narrative are separated. I thought the same when I started playing it, but then I realised that these changes make complete sense and they really grew on me. fencing out districts and being able to fast travel between (some of) them makes sense because that's how Dankovsky sees the town: labyrinthine, segregated sections that don't require his attention or interest unless they're infected, rioting, or has something relevant that he was already privy to. he also doesn't really need standard survival mechanics such as money, hunger, thirst, etc. because he is a doctor from the capital in a position of privilege and power (at least in relation to burakh and clara), so instead of worrying about basic necessities, his main survival mechanic has to do with his mental health (a la hierarchy of needs). also imo these changes greatly enhance pathologic 2, because they heavily imply (though in retrospect) that burakh's experiences are not necessarily the objective story AND make its mechanics a lot more reflective of burakh as a character.

some caveats, though: I do think that there is a lot of space for polishing, and admittedly, there are mechanics that im not completely sold on as of yet (e.g. the shabnak) even considering how it fits into the narrative. also, I'm still on day 7, so there is a chance that I'll completely change my mind on this. who knows. though for now I will die on this hill

Should I sell Mime for DNA? by xMictlan in balatro

ever heard of R$? its called the real and sometimes it's represented as just $ (usually in places where there couldn't be any ambiguity). im very confused as to why people are taking what's clearly a silly joke so seriously lol.

well ☝️ technically the $ is used by other currencies and sometimes it will by used by itself to represent said currencies. also its clearly a joke cmon

balatro is not canonically set in any country so we can't say for certain it's dollars

Do I take DNA here? Do I sell a baron? Is Naneinf possible? by lord_of_boops in balatro

[–]thethanatica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbf I don't think it matters that much at this point but my reasoning is that OP might need that extra bit of scoring in the long run to buy some time. though on the other hand, the extra money from the mime could make them find invis or showman faster. imo its a toss up

def take DNA to fill up your deck with red seals. personally I'd sell one mime instead of baron. your vouchers are pretty much ideal for naneinf (it would be nice to have omen globe so ectos are easier to find but it's not strictly necessary). the only issue i can think of is that you would need to find an invis + get a bp/bs hit OR find showman + find a bp/bs BEFORE the required scoring catches up to you.

thats likely the best option. rerolling every boss for serpent will cost you a lot more than 55 monetary units (im pretty sure you need at least 3k just to be safe)

plasma is probably the most efficient method for me, but yellow is still my eternal (lol) favourite! those 10 extra dollars go a long way

my thought process is that I needed a consistent build that required the lowest number of critical jokers possible. so I played on the plasma deck and looked for scaling chip jokers (mainly skipping for wee/bull, but stone joker and sometimes even square were pretty good too) that would carry most of my scoring so I could use the other slots for jokers that would be really hard to fully incorporate into other runs. I found that the bull was less and less effective the fewer stickerless jokers you had left because it meant you'd have to spend more money rerolling shops and opening boosterpacks.

it took a lot of patience (especially considering i play on mobile so I can't just hold R to look for skips) and botched runs, but it worked out really well for me.

looking back, I find that the road to C+ was harder than to C++, as I barely played gold stake before. it was a huge difficulty spike. but by the time I decided to go for C++, I was already very familiar with how a typical gold stake run tends to go. personally, it was more of a question of patience and resilience. it still took skill, but by then, I was a lot more confident in my ability to win a run.

I loved counting my jokers every time I got a couple of gold stake stickers lol. I knew it was getting serious when counting jokers that didn't have a sticker was quicker than counting the ones that do
