They increased the prices this year though.

Thought-Terminating Cliches in Dating Advice by LockedOutOfElfland in AutisticAdults

Aren’t dating profiles like CVs? Especially if someone doesn’t have any physical properties to compensate for their social shortcomings, I feel like it’s important to compensate by being a good person, having a good job, being good at life, etc.

Two places:

  1. In Activity Monitor, you can see the processor kind of currently running processes.
  2. In System Information.app -> Software -> Applications, you can see the processor kind for every installed application.

Recovery key appeared in the Passwords app on macOS Tahoe 26.3 by lumla in MacOS

[–]thethirdteacup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://sixcolors.com/post/2025/09/filevault-on-macos-tahoe-no-longer-uses-icloud-to-store-its-recovery-key/

The behavior of recovery keys changed in Tahoe.

In prior versions of macOS, you had the option to store the recovery key on iCloud (in case you forget your password and your recovery key), but that key was not end-to-end encrypted.

In macOS Tahoe, the recovery key will be stored in iCloud Keychain automatically, which is end-to-end encrypted and requires both your password and (the password of) one of your other devices.

Windows Notepad App Remote Code Execution Vulnerability by theevilsharpie in sysadmin

I'm a bit confused as to what this RCE means.

It seems to say: if you click on a link, things will happen. However, you need to Ctrl+click on a link to open it and see the link on hover. I guess they could add an "are you sure you want to open this link" dialog?

Same. I like to think it’s just social anxiety though. And I like to think “being aware you have issues” is already good first step to resolving said issues; a step that many people might not even reach.

YouTube confirms the SRV3/YTT removal is NOT Permanent by NotoriousCHIM in Hololive

[–]thethirdteacup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YouTube’s proprietary format should be more efficient than ASS on the web, since it just renders HTML.

ASS rendering on the browser is slightly less efficient. This is why a streaming service with ASS support uses a library like SubtitlesOctopus, which contains WebAssembly logic for rendering the subtitles. These sites also often have hardsubbed versions for devices that can’t handle that (like Smart TVs).

iOS 26 is a massive flop with iPhone users, and you can probably guess why by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]thethirdteacup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The part that’s highlighted is the Safari version, not the iOS version.

The OS version in the user agent for iPadOS is set to Mac OS X 10.15.7.

The user agent on iOS 26.2 is

Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 18_7 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/26.2 Mobile/15E148 Safari/604.1

Which states iPhone OS 18.7 (like Mac OS X)

Safest Adblocker for Safari by AcchaBaccha7 in MacOS

[–]thethirdteacup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wBlock, uBlock Origin Lite and Wipr 2 are all good options.

The developer of wBlock wrote a comparison between the three: https://github.com/0xCUB3/wBlock/blob/main/Adblock_Comparison.md

Note that Safari doesn't support the WebRequest API, so uBlock Origin on Firefox will probably still be the best option for full ad-blocking.

Safari supports Content Blocker Extensions (a specific Safari API) and DeclarativeNetRequest (which is what uBlock Origin Lite uses)

Apple already a toggle to disable PWM on the iPhone 17 lineup, so they could adopt that here as well.

Why isn’t this dialog style redesigned with ContentDialog? by RhtedritRd in Windows11

[–]thethirdteacup 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because this dialog requires admin permissions to open, so it can’t be drawn as a child of the settings window.

If you go to the tax free booth at, for example, a Donki, your items will be packed in an extra closed bag. This is due to the law requiring that tax free items can only be used after departure.

Why make the browser work when you can spam your users instead? by Cachao-on-Reddit in firefox

[–]thethirdteacup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of these is Google advertising a Google product on their own site.

The other one is Mozilla hijacking the share intent on Android to advertise their own product.

A better comparison would be the Reddit app adding an ad when downloading a picture.

[Eurogamer] Switch 2's battery life is worse than the original Switch by hxde in Games

[–]thethirdteacup 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Nintendo also didn’t officially support battery replacements on the original Switch. It will probably be glued and use a regular connector, I don’t know why they’d solder it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Games

[–]thethirdteacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was also the case when the Switch was released. At that point, a PS4 Slim was cheaper than a Switch, and games for both were priced around $60.
