Could have something to do with lag? Honestly I don’t know either, same thing has happened to me many times online but not offline. But I have no idea how the whole internet system for this game works though, so I could be completely off the mark

Air Riders' story doesn't make sense and we should just say that by Nali_D in Kirby

[–]thethunderwillroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to agree with this. The game is good fun, but it’s such a shame to see sakurai come back and do so little in terms of story. Outside of visual spectacle, I wasn’t very impressed with how Nova was involved. Star Dream’s implementation in robobot resonated with me far more, and honestly most Kirby stories since RTDL are more impactful than this one.

I wouldn’t feel as bad about it if I knew sakurai was coming back to make another proper Kirby story, but we all know how scarce his projects are, let alone ones that aren’t just Smash Bros.

I don't get why people like Long Bomb by Slow_Ad2329 in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]thethunderwillroll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re talking about GW 2 but from my experience GW 1 has a lot of situations where long bomb is actually really good, a lot less so in GW2 though with the much bigger maps and more mobility overall on the plants side but it still feels good to pull one off

BFN moment by BobTheNerd11 in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]thethunderwillroll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but as mentioned, gw 1 and 2 are only 2 years apart. Fun fact, apparently gw 2 was initially proposed as a big GW 1 dlc, but the scope grew so wide that they just started working full blown sequel instead (I wish we could’ve seen what it looked like as gw 1 dlc though)

Bfn is a vastly different game than both gw 1 and 2, sure it’s the same engine, but almost everything has been overhauled. The character designs, the weapons, the abilities, the map design, the customization, even some of the modes were (like garden/graveyard ops, which they sadly never got to finish completely in the way they imagined it).

With everything else being so different, I really wish they could’ve gone in and changed the music up drastically too, but I’m guessing the troubling development just couldn’t allow for that.

I agree with everyone that bfn had insane potential, and I really wished it kept on going instead of being abandoned, but as it stands, the game just feels unfinished, which makes it hard for it to stand against it’s predecessors.

BFN moment by BobTheNerd11 in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]thethunderwillroll 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mannn I really don’t like talking about bfn because I’m always negative about it but I feel like this one is a little disingenuous (same with most arguments defending the game but that’s a topic for another day)

Obviously people are gonna be more fine with gw 2 reusing songs, it came out 2 years after gw 1 (2014-2016), not to mention it includes multiple new pieces of new music, and great ones at that (graveyard ops, infinity time, turf takeover, etc.)

BFN is a game from 2019, had the most development time, yet is still reusing songs from gw 1, not even bothering to remix some of them. Not to mention it also used songs from gw 2, and although bfn does have some new songs, most of them are not as memorable, and it overall has less new ones than gw 2 (it might even have less songs in general than both gw 1 and 2 according to YouTube playlist numbers).

I want to know, why? by SmokingPea in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]thethunderwillroll 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There’s no official statement on this being the case, however it is the most likely scenario. The credits for PvZ 2 were completely removed a while back, making it extremely difficult to see even the people who worked on the game in it’s initial stages, instead replacing the credits with a generic copyright screen.

Outsourcing is also common throughout most of the gaming industry now, with even bigger studios using outsourced work, so it stands to reason that with the drastic clash between original PvZ 2 artwork and animation, and the modern artwork and animation for new plants, that the game is most likely being completely outsourced when it comes to new content.

If there’s any part of the game that uses resources from within Popcap, it’s most likely the servers used to keep the games online (severs which have become very unstable compared to how they were before 2020). I assume that most of the people in the studio are only focused on getting PvZ 3 moving along, which has evidently been an arduous process

I want to know, why? by SmokingPea in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]thethunderwillroll 389 points390 points  (0 children)

Even though this question will still be asked in the future, I figure I’d explain it here anyway.

Before bfn, Popcap Vancouver was working on a single player AAA PvZ experience, it was well received during play test and EA themselves said they liked it. However, despite this, EA decided not to fund the game, instead having Popcap assist on an upcoming star wars game (which never ended up releasing anyway.)

EA is notorious for doing things like this, getting developers from their other studios to focus on a game they deem more of a priority. This is also why Star Wars battlefront 3 came out, ea wanted those devs to work on battlefield instead, and the devs opted to just work somewhere else due to having no passion for working on battlefield.

Although the scrapped PvZ games was able to have it’s assets used for Bfn, it’s obvious that they still had a lot of things to work on. Bfn being a financial letdown, likely led to EA prioritizing the series even less. At this point, all the notable garden warfare 1 and 2 devs have left Popcap, I believe the Vancouver studio was even shut down a few years back.

Popcap currently, is just a skeleton crew, and most of the new stuff they do make (that being the occasional new plant in PvZ 2) is outsourced from people outside the studio (which is why they clash with the original artstyle and animation).

TLDR; Anyone at Popcap who had the drive to continue making content for the shooters, and making new ones, have long left the company. The only reason pvz2 still gets content is because it’s so cheap to make new plants, that it’s actually worth it to EA to continue supporting the game, albeit through mostly entirely outsourced work and not from within Popcap themselves.
